Hi! My name is Konstantin Selivanov. I'm owner of PowerHouse Kickboxing located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Today, we're going to talk about Jab. Jab is a straight punch, kind of thrown me on the front inside closer to your opponent.
If you're right handed, so your left is forward and it's going to be your left arm in the Jab. If you're left handed, you're going to switch position. Your right leg is forward and your punch, this your right, straight punch. So, I'm right handed. I'm going to stay in my right hand position.
Some people use only triceps. It's kind of - it's in mostly like you see it in the boxing. They stay more this side toward the opponent and using their triceps, this way. It's quick but its not powerful because they are using only triceps.
And that's a type of Jab when you're using back muscle a lot, shoulder, triceps and hip. You have to rotate the hip, little bit, so to get more power. So in this way I prefer second Jab, I am going to use lot. So when I come here, it doesn't matter, the shoulders should be up. See. It doesn't matter what distance I'm to the opponent. I can stay back and see using the same power and I can get closer and basically I don't lose any power.
This is fun for boxing. See in the front, like you're using your jab, using only triceps. But when you get - like Kickboxing, it's different position, I prefer using a lot. To be able to Jab, you need to feel where your power is coming from. So, in the first exercise, I would prefer you to push back instead of punching. But we're going to push back certain way.
Okay now, place your arm on the back straight, again straight. If you bend your arm, you have to use your muscles you don't want that. I want you to focus only on the body. Again arm straight using the hip and your shoulder, push back. Again see you have to pivot at your foot a little bit. Again don't push it like this. See, because you are basically losing balance.
What I wanted to use, your hip and your shoulder. You can pivot at your foot and push back. Now, we're going to start with second exercise for Jab. We're going to do double Jab and again we're going to do from robot position, this is my term Robot. I want you - again you're not going to fight this way. You're going to hold arm parallel to the floor. Basically, I'm setting level with your shoulder, a little bit, half bended. Your face is looking at the target again, stomach in. What I want you to do, again, like you pushed so you need to your hip and your shoulder at the same time.
So, we're going to do Double Jab this way like, reload. It's like a barrel in the gun. So you charge, then you reload and you're charged again. Again you're not going to fight this way. This is exercise. What I want to achieve, I want to eliminate your arms, so you don't focus on your arm at all, you focus only on your body.
So it's not the one, we're going to do Step Jab. You use Step-Jab to cut distance between you and the opponent. So try to keep your foot on your toes backfoot, so you can charge at any given time. So again shoulders up, see I can't reach my opponent. From this position, you see the opening and you go forward. See, go back.
So again shoulders up and you concentrate on the move and then, go back. So you can like check out your opponent before they fight so they see how you react. Also you can do combination, set up combination. So again you're standing and you go forward to the jab and go back. Combination again.
