Fundamental Throwing Mechanics

Let’s talk about the proper grip for throwing a softball. You see the seams on the ball are very important so the first principle of gripping the softball is to make sure that you grip the ball in your fingers and not in the palm of the hand. Now you could use a 2-finger, 3-finger, or 4-finger grip depending on the size of your hands and how comfortable you are. Now how you grip the ball is very important. So you see you can see on the ball a U and then a C like Carolina or and C. If I’m going with a 3-finger grip which is a traditional grip you’re looking on the fingers and you have loins. You typically going to want to grab the ball here on the seams with that line in your hands so I would find the C right here and spread my fingers evenly over the top the C.
I want to C over here it could be the opposite it doesn’t really matter as long as they have 2 seams right here, grab the ball there and you throw your fingers on the opposite sides so ideally on the proper grip you should have a little space in your hand there and this is really hard to get rid off. This is a really, really solid grip so you see 3-fingered grip across the C or the other C and the fingers and with my thumb underneath so that been kind of like let loose a little and I don’t want to palm the ball that way, it’s really it’s finger grip. Some players may have a little bit harder time because they have smaller hands. Some people with some very big hands and will probably find it they have lot space but bottom line is it’s the top of the finger with the thumb underneath with some space over here.
And if you make a test you can try to pull the ball off the hand of someone, it’s actually pretty hard because, this is a very, very solid grip. So bottom line that’s how you grip the ball in soft ball make sure it’s in the finger not in the palm, you want to make sure that it’s across the seams this way so you want the seams to be in a C or inverted C position top fingers here whether it’s 2, 3, or 4 fingers. So 4 finger grip would be this way here, you spread them out evenly or 2 fingers right here and then with the other thumb underneath and that’s basically a simple grip for throwing a softball.
