Hello and welcome to this edition of Sass N Style with your host Amy Salinger. On the TimeOutChicago YouTube site, you can see me showing you how to tie a winter scarf and 50,000 views later I am going to finally show you how to tie a dress scarf. Today we are going to use it on my friend Deidre who is going to be our beautiful model, and I am going to show you all of the funky and eclectic ways you can use the scarf to funk up your outfit. Let's go.
So here is my beautiful friend Deidre, I would like you to know how pretty all my friends are. Long and skinny is the easiest type of scarf to manipulate, it's I am not really going to reach beyond it. I am going to give you a real quick and easy way to do it, and we will move on to a more complicated ways. Very simply, find the middle of the scarf, we are going to wrap it around the back of our neck.
Here is a cute little trick that I like to do with my clients, twist the scarf, you don't want too much bulk around the necks, we probably start twisting it around mid bust line, you ladies can find that point, right at the bottom right here, so there should be even end. We are going to tie it twice, why? It's because we want to have a little bit weight down through the middle, to actually have it hanging as best as it can, fly out without weight. Here we have a cute little honey scarf, but add a little bit of flair, I have brought in my vintage collection of brooches, here is a way to make your typical business casual outfit, a little bit of funk and with your own personal style.
Yet another style with our skinny scarf, because we want to use that as many ways as we can, it's all about value for your buck, be able to do as many things as you can with one item. Again, we are going to take it from the middle, we are going to wrap it around Deidre's neck. She is clearly not a 50's housewife, obviously, but we are going to do up in ode to a 50's housewife look with a little bit of funk. We are going to do pull it through in a half bow. So we have one side coming through, fairing over, take the longer side, we are going to tuck over the neck piece right here in front of the other half bow, pull it a little tighter. We are not done yet, let's bring out the gold earring. I am going to do it again with our vintage brooch, and look at how fun that is, it's a vintage 50's housewife look with Deidre;s sense of style and funk going on. She is fabulous.
So this next scarf is a bigger dress scarf, I propose too wearing it just as a wrap, throwing it over, I am going to take it one step further as I do with most things that I do in my life. We are going take this beautiful shear scarf with velvet detail on it, I am going to wrap it over her shoulder. See this is the way people usually use that, maybe like just throw it over, no, no, no, we don't want to stop there. We are going to make the right side a little bit longer on her. We are going to throw it over her shoulders the way people normally do.
Make sure it's still draping on that right shoulder. Now, instead of just leaving it like this, we are going to take this piece and we are going to fold it over the other side, now if you could turn for me. We also have it drapes down this side, of course, why stop there, let's with my fun brooch yet again, because I love little funk. So I am going to use this gold brooch again, honestly guys, I think this cost me two bucks, it's from Salvation Army, you know my style by now, and we are going to put it up right there again pulling out the gold erring.
This is extremely sophisticated, it can go anywhere from Deidre who is 28, all the way up to 50-60, it's just a sophisticated look, so pull it off. Next up, we do have this scarf which is big squared, this style is the style that most of my friends go, I don't know what to do with this. The easiest way to do this is as a head scarf, if you can pull it off, I always suggested, it's a great beach look and it's a great Bohemian style. So why not do it?
So first, square scarf, we are literally going to fold it together end to end, so that it makes a simple triangle, isn't it a great, great scarf, because the pattern is right in the middle and it's a good focal point in the middle of your forehead. This guy knows that they are all going to show up in the middle of our forehead. We are not just like Mother Teresa style, let's make it a little bit more interesting, fold over. Now we have the back of the triangle on her head, we are going to tie a knot, right in the center as best as I can in a strange position I am in. Over at the triangle, we want to tuck that in, so we can keep the top of her head flat, and we are going to double knot it so that it doesn't come out when you are running down the beach.
Oh my God! You are so richy, only way hotter, beautiful. So I am going to show you another scarf trick in my bag full of scarf tricks that I carry with me everywhere I go. Very simple, square, lower, we are going to fold into halves, we have one half, look triangle, two halves triangle, another half, another half, another half, and now we have come up with what is going to be the top, what's popping out, that we are going to shove into Deidre's pocket, and make her funky and fabulous, little bit of a men's wear twist. So now that I have folded this up in a proper manner according to stylist Amy Salinger, I am going to shove it into the pocket, so I am going to take this flap from the pocket, fold it inward, that's just so that it doesn't get in the way. And now it's a matter of literally shoving and finagling the scarf, if I can get it in there, ding dang boom, messy, messy and this is the way I wanted.
It's just about making it your own, adding your own types of flair, what a great idea; use men's wear into women's wear, why not? Now for the finale of this episode, I am sure you have been wondering this entire time, may, how did you tie your scarf? So here, it would be easy, easy, you have no idea how easy is this. Everyone's, including mine, is too difficult to be getting all crazy with scarf time. So long scarf yet again, you can get them at any store, this is like $6 or get through a bucket at Salvation Army, watch them first though. So here we go, we are going to wrap around underneath the collar, which I have popped, because I am like that, we will make it even, we are going to pull it off to the side, one knot, make sure it's draping and then we are going to do two knots, it doesn't have to be tight, that's not the point of this.
And then let's take out my brooch that again was like $3, we are just going to pin up nice and matchy right here to the vest off to the side, make sure it's kind of funky and boom. Carry them around in the city, two knots and a wrap around the neck, I think you guys can do that.
