How to Tow a Skier on your Boat

Ben Freedman: Hi there and welcome to Neo-fight.tv the Technology Review with two points of view. My name is Ben Freedman. Tiffany Young: And I'm Tiffany Young and today is Friday! Ben Freedman: It’s Friday because we had such a hard week. Tiffany Young: I know, it’s just exhausting out here. Ben Freedman: Oh my gosh! Tiffany Young: Today is the day that we answer some of your questions sent to us via email and our first question marine related of course. “I often have to hook up my car to my trailer by myself. I'm very worried about hurting my truck by backing up too far. Is there something that can make this easier?” Ben did you have an answer to this question. Ben Freedman: Well one thing is take another person. I mean that is the safest way to go. But I tell you I did look around in the internet and we found a product that would be very helpful if you do have to back the car yourself. I met this guy. This is something that you put on your hitch ball. And you leave it there until you’re ready to backup and then when you're ready to backup you put this inside. I don’t know if you can see that here, and what happens is that now you just kind of get close and when you back up you're trailer bumps this and centers itself— Tiffany Young: Like guide wings. Ben Freedman: And then when you're done you can pop that out and then if you need to this doubles as a wheel chuck. So this will fit on any kind of tow bar, and it’s a great way if you have to backup it makes things— Tiffany Young: Absolutely good idea! Ben Freedman: Our next question! “I do not have a ski pylon on my boat and I don’t want to make any major modifications. Is there something I can use to tow a tube or a skier?” You know most boats have the little eye on the back, but a lot of boats don’t. So I found in the internet this thing called a boat tow harness for water sports by Airhead. It’s a self-centering pulley. And basically what this does is you clip these two clips onto the back of your boats and make sure it’s nice and secure and then this pulley centers itself between that piece of rope in sort of a V and then you can attach your tube here to this part. It’s long enough that it will go behind your motor. Tiffany Young: It’s just like a yoke. Now, you're still not going to get what you get when you have the pile on that actually come up. Ben Freedman: Wakeboarder tower. Tiffany Young: Or tower, right. Because you don’t have the lift. You're not coming from up here. So it makes a little bit more difficult for especially those who are just learning how to do wake boarding. But you know this is also very nice. Ben Freedman: That’s a good answer.
