How to Transform Your Couch with Pillows
Lesley: No money to redecorate. Now worries there’s an easy way to bring new
life to your tired old sofa. Rhiannon is doing some pillow talk, take a look.
Rhiannon: Design expert Samantha Knapp is going to show us how to dress up any
couch with a few simple pillows and this couch is so comfortable but it’s
pretty boring.
Samantha: Well what’s really great about it number one is it’s a neutral color and the
pillows is amazing. You can have anything from high, low, different
styles, different sizes and really a couch like this can transform in different
ways which is really amazing.
Rhiannon: Let’s get started. These pillows are lovely but I’m almost afraid to ask,
how much.
Samantha: Well how much are you willing to spend that’s the first thing, you got to
think of a budget because check these out, these are the Gucci, Prada,
Louis of pillows are you ready for it.
Rhiannon: How much?
Samantha: 750 but of course this is opportunity fabric and these are all down.
However you know again you really have to think about the budget. What
do you want to spend?
Rhiannon: I mean $750 I mean let’s see they’re going to look great on the couch.
Samantha: They do look fabulous.
Rhiannon: Who’s going to spend $750 probably not very many people so let’s take it
down a few notches and show a similar look but for less. These pillows
are also nice and lot more less expensive.
Samantha: They certainly are. This is the look for less and one of the things you
should do if you’re looking for to get that same effect think of the current
colors that are out there. What’s hot right now and a lot of times places
like Target, Pottery, Barnes they’re going to have the pillows for a lot less
and they’re going to look just as great and have you know the same kind
of effect of a nice print on your neutral sofa.
Rhiannon: So how much for these?
Samantha: About $30 a piece, a drastic difference.
Rhiannon: No matter what your price point is the design and shape of your pillows
can really save say lot about the personality of your house. What are these
saying?
Samantha: Well these are two different schools of thought here. It’s almost like
music, what do you like the pash mode or grateful dead. This is traditional.
Do you like that or do you like modern?
Rhiannon: What if you like both can you mix a match?
Samantha: You certainly can mix and match and what I love about the traditional part
of this pillow for example is the pattern and what is great about that is it
brings so much colors in to really bring out that mix and match so with all
of this color you might find a nice stripe, you might find a nice plaid and
you might find something that’s just solid and you can maybe contrast it
with a different type of trim.
So the mix match what I like about this particular pillow is the size, it’s a
modern with this contemporary sort of wave on it but it matches with the
traditional. You can throw them on the couch and really what is great
about size what you’re looking at is 24x24 this one is a baby, baby pillow
buy you can certainly put them all in the couch together and it creates sort
of an added layer, texture, different dimension sizes and shapes really ads
a pop to what we’re talking about the neutral sofa.
Rhiannon: And what’s kind of the rule of thumb as far as how many pillows to have
on a regular sized sofa.
Samantha: It sort of depends. What I like is maybe something big like this again
24x24 is probably the biggest maybe something right in front of that to
move our smaller pillows that you’ve been looking at like an 18x18 here
and then to top it off maybe something small in the middle.
Lesley: And Samantha has some great tips on picking and hanging wallpaper just
head to our website for her link.
