Hi, I am Joe Graedon. I am a pharmacologist. I write the People’s Pharmacy newspaper column and co-host of radio show.
The kids on the school yard, they use to say there is a fungus among us, they were right. We are surrounded by fungus and often it invades our nails, our fingernails or toenails. It makes them thick and yellow, and ugly, and who wants to wear sandals when you get yucky looking nails.
Well, they are lot of really affective anti-fungal treatments in the pharmacy. You can get a prescription, they cause 100s sometimes over a thousand dollars for full treatment and they come with side effects. They can be tough on the liver. What else can you do?
Well it turns out there are couple of things, for example something called Tea Tree Oil comes from Australia and it does have anti-fungal properties if you put it on your toenails everyday, you maybe able to get rid of that fungus in a couple of months. Something else people tells us works pretty well is Regino Oil, it is too available in pharmacies and health good stores.
There is actually a little research to suggest that Vics Vaporub coated on your nails in the morning and then in the evening, will also work if two has some anti-fungal properties. And if you really are dedicated to get ridding that fungus, well soak your feet in white vinegar or even apple side or vinegar for that matter about one part of vinegar to two parts water in a foot bath, 15 minutes or 20 minutes a day. Then you have to do this for weeks and months on in, but it will get rid of the fungus and also you might want to try Listerine soap. So Listerine, a little vinegar and you do this on a regular basis, the anti-fungal properties seems to get rid of that nasty fungus.
You can also soak your feet in an herb Pau’d Arko comes from South America and this works too. But one of my favorites is corn meal muff. The kind of stuff that you would use to make corn meal muffins, what you do is you make a foot bath. You soak your feet in about 15 to 30 minutes in that corn meal muff, that fungus will be gone but be patient it may takes several months to go work.
