Hello and welcome to the knee pain guru, knee pain questions answered. My name is Bill Parravano and we have a question this week from Uma. She says I've suddenly developed severe pain in the right knee, an MRI scan show meniscal tear. She has undergone arthroscopic surgery in February 2009 just a few months ago, was in a walker for ten days and doing the knee exercises twice a day. I am not sure if you are doing minor knee exercises or from a physical therapy in the exercises, so that might be helpful for me.
Doctor ask me not to use walker. I am still having pain when I start walking after sitting or weighing for a while, I am really not able to walk normally and actually jumping for a few steps and dragging the legs with limbs. Doctor says there was no problems with the surgery. I am having pain in the right heel as I am not having proper walk, walking properly. I am doing leg lifting exercises, knee pressing and bending exercises regularly. I want to know the reason for late recovery and advice if I have to consult the ortho or physio for my problem. It is really painful and I am not able to walk as requires for my heart problem.
My surgery details say, this is kind of good. Grade two attribute changes are in medial patella, posterior horn of medial menisci and anterior horn of lateral menisci, tear cartilage, degeneration on trivial surface, partial meniscectomy of horn menisci done, compression bandage applied, injection medac given. That is a very medical term that I am not very familiar with. What I can work with is the pain, where does it hurt. I am from India and surgery was done in a reputed hospital, please suggest for me a pain relief approach in getting to walking normal soon. In how many weeks can I wait for the results?
Well, as far as the results go, everyone is going to be different. Everyone holds tension and emotion in their body differently, so the ability of a person's body to recover is dependent on I believe five key factors; one is the amount of water intake and the quality of water intake they have, the second is nutrition, what is your diet like. The third is exercise and that's proper exercise meaning, strengthening the tendons and ligaments within the knee joint itself, four is stretching and that is dynamic stretching, not linear stretching that what I have seen most of the stretching that they taught out there and breathing incorporating proper breathing into the - into your program which relaxes attention in your nervous system. So those key factors are very important in terms of the speed at which a person recovers from knee pain, knee surgery whatever the condition they are dealing with, with their knees.
The first thing I can throw out there as being helpful would be to increase your water. What it's going to do is that's going to flush a lot of the toxins out of your body. Now here is the little hint that I haven't mentioned before and that is you are going to want to use a little bit of blend like a lemon wedge in your water. What happens is the lemon increases the alkalinity of the water. It allows your body to flush out the toxins quicker. Your body will process the lemon much quicker as well.
So that's a really good bit of information. Don't miss that one, so go ahead and start increasing your water intake, you want to use your body weight divided by two an ounces of water per day, put a little lemon wedge in there and start drinking the water down and let me know how that begins to help as far as what's going on in your knees.
So hopefully that answers your question. If there is anything else, please go ahead and email me at bill@thekneepainguru.com and if you are seeing this video for the first time you can check out more information at thekneepainguru.com. Thank you very much and we'll talk soon. Bye, bye.
