Jason: My name is Jason and I'm in Austin and I'm curious what the easiest way to cure a spider bite is?
William Schaffner: Jason, we usually treat people with spider bites with antibiotics first, to make sure they don't get a regular infection, rest, elevation, ice packs and then some doctors give patients depending upon the seriousness, some other medicines to interfere with the action of the poison of the spider or to help the body respond to the spider bite.
The Black Widow on the other hand is one that really injects serious poison and that's a poison that can go out throughout your body and no matter where you're bitten, you can get muscle cramps at different parts of the body, get feverish, feel pretty ill.
If you're seen with a black widow spider bite at an emergency room and it's any degree of seriousness, they'll give you an anti-venom compound, that is, an agent to counteract the poison that the spider gives you.
