We’re now going to finish the dog by doing her head. She can’t see terribly well at the moment so, I think that will be our first concern. Taking a pair of thinning scissors, we’ll just thin out the corners of her eyes. I don’t want to take it too short hair, just keep it soft. We lift it here. We’re not to get to our base line which is that in that direction.
Taking our straight-edge scissors, now to the back of the neck. I need to get thin this head down a little bit so using a comb we can lift the coat. I’ve combed the hair forward and then I’m going to just go in to thinning the fringe. Off of the eye, we don’t want to catch the hair here so if you hold that down.
This is looking bulky at this side. I’m using the thinners, just going to thin out a little. More, we’re in this area. It looks a little bulky on the wooly side. We can work from the back of the head moving a little over at a time. Keep looking at the space line and just clip it nice and straight.
With the head, you have to keep moving round to get the balance. You hold the ears back and look at the hair you can see whether you are getting the sides roughly this side. And I don’t want to straight cut across just a slight angled cut. Just looking a little thick there so, it’s probably the trickiest bit of the trimming of an old English. They will vary in shape and you just have to keep winkling until you think you’ve got it looking as pretty as possible.
And we’re getting somewhere near now. I don’t want too long under to the chin. It’s like a mess of that when they’re eating. If we look down the head is beginning to look fairly even, very short underneath the hair. It helps the air to circulate in the hair. Too short and there’s a little time bit, comb them down and just.
I think now is the time for her to hop off the floor, have a good shake and then we’ll see that still looks alright after that. Here we are with the finished result and I think she looks really quite nice and cuddly and show her around with things out there.
