Hey, this is John’s Learning Guitar Now and this how-to, I’m going to show to tune the guitar to open E if you don’t already know how to do that. So, from standard tuning you just got to change three strings and then you got open E. So it’s pretty simple. Let’s go ahead and do that and clever how to do that real fast. The first string if you’re in standard tuning is exactly the same low E string just like that.
[Demonstration]
Now, the next string of A in standard tuning. So for open E, we’ve got to change an A to a B so I want you to do is you take your first finger put in on the 7th fret of the big E string and that gives you the sound of the B string so you got.
[Demonstration]
There you go, B.
[Demonstration]
And now the next string down it’s going to be an E string which previously right now is a D. And you want to make that an E so you got to tune it up to E, so take the big string E.
[Demonstration]
Tune up to.
[Demonstration]
Now, we’ve got an E.
[Demonstration]
And the next one, it’s going to be a G sharp note.
[Demonstration]
On the 4th fret of the D string which is now the E string you got to tune that up one fret to G sharp.
[Demonstration]
So we have.
[Demonstration]
So now, E.
[Demonstration]
E, G sharp.
[Demonstration]
B which is the same standard tuning, E is the same standard tuning.
[Demonstration]
So if ever you wanted to change these three strings here the A and the D and the G string to B, E, and G sharp. So then you just hit all the notes.
[Demonstration]
That’s kind of off, so we want to do the same process over again to make sure we got it.
[Demonstration]
Fourth fret on the D string.
[Demonstration]
And you may take your guitar to get used to this tuning since you’re tuning up. It’s going to take a few times tuning it back and forth to keep it in tune.
[Demonstration]
Another thing you wanted to do is raise your action if you don’t have a little bit higher action you want to go ahead and do that. Well, in this G is pretty simple. You just turn the strings, tune them way down so you can move these little suckers right here. And you turn those to raise the bridge up so you could have higher action then slide guitar is a way easier to play high action because you won’t hit all the fret release if you’re fretting out. So it’s extremely a lot more way easier to play if you raise the action, so it will definitely tune open E.
[Demonstration]
And now this is the E chord open strings.
[Demonstration]
Check it out, now that’s an E.
[Demonstration]
The cool thing to do is I’m going to show you how easy thing to do with your fingers, second fret on the B string now and then first fret on the G sharp string.
[Demonstration]
Push it down.
[Demonstration]
Harmonic.
[Demonstration]
It’s simple to do with open E.
[Demonstration]
Alright, this is E.
[Demonstration]
You want to play A chord.
[Demonstration]
This fret bar.
[Demonstration]
Now take these and put your third finger on the same fret, 2nd finger on the 6th fret. So you have, I call them Rolling Stones or Black Crowes’ move.
[Demonstration]
You have your E slide on the top fret.
[Demonstration]
Well, that’s it for this how-to and that’s how you tune your guitar on open E and a few chords together with it. So please visit learningguitanow.com for more how-to’s and you can always email me if you have any questions or comments at info@learningguitarnow.com. I also have a slide DVD available specifically for open and tuning so you can check out the website for that too. Alright, see you later.
