How to Tune your Guitar to New Tunings

Hey, I’m Nate Savage and in this section of lessons, I’m going to teach you about alternate tunings. We’re going to go through drop D, DADGAD and some open tunings for you and there are a couple of things you probably want to remember. When you’re thinking about alternate tuning the 1st one is you may want to go heavier gauge strings if you tend to play in drop D a lot of you intend to play DADGAD a lot because your strings can get a little bit floppy.

And now we’re going to get a capo too if you use DADGAD or if you use open tunings a lot. And one of the reasons why people use this tunings is to get a sound that they wouldn’t normally to be able to get with the standard tuning. Or they might a little bit harder to play in the standard tuning. It’s easier to get a meaner sound of the guitar if down tune a little bit to get a little bit crunchier like heavy metal sound.

It’s easier to get some more in wide spread open chords if you have like an open tuning DADGAD tuning. You’ll see what I mean in the coming lessons. So expand out with these and go listen some players like Pepe Genveda, Tie Taper, Slo K. those guys do a lot different and open and ultimate tunings that you’ll probably like.
