This is Bryan Stevens, and what you’re looking at right now is a lavatory. And if you can see, lavatory is not draining.
Okay, Bryan Stevens here again, we’re looking on a stuffed top bathroom lavatory, we’re going to figure out how to unstuck it right now. We will do the easiest thing first, the most likely spotless thing we stopped today is where the trip lever, connects to the stopper. This is the trip lever if you see the trap here, when you pull over what, that paddle up top, it lifts this thing up, it will stop her down. It kind of works like this, pull the hammer, push the stopper up, pull the hammer up, place the stopper down. It’s all connected back here.
Can you see this? So what you want to do is take this out, but we can’t do that first. Right now there’s water in the bowl. If we take this loose, it will come right out of this hole. The very first thing that I do is drain the water out. Through that we need a little bowl or something, I like this from the where it works pretty good. And there’s probably, possibly, likely more water in the bowl and this will hold, so you don’t want take everything loose at once.
I just got up pretty good underneath here but basically, I want to show you, this is a P-trap; it’s kind of shaped like a P, sort of. There’s two nuts on this. This nut on here on the bottom is called a wet nut, basically because; the water stays in this P-trap up to this level. That’s what keeps the sewer gas smell from coming in the house. So, you want to loosen this wet nut, just a little bit. When you do, water should start draining into the bowl. It’s got a pretty good seal so, pardon my arm. Here is the lever. We’re going to let it drip in the bowl so that the bowl fills up. That way, when the bowl gets full, you can tidy back up, and if there’s too much water in the bowl, you want all to come out.
And this other piece is called extension tube and it’s basically, since this bowl is wrapped a little higher than normal, it’s a little higher cabinet, than a standard height, it had a little extension to allow to connect. Okay, it’s drying there. We got that loose and I’m going to take this out loose and the only water in here is in the trap. Just get that out. Dump all that into this Tupperware container. And you see that nasty stuff hanging there is hair and sludge, soap is gone, and it looks pretty gross but really, it’s not that bad. You can do this in your lavatory and rinse our own hairs so you don’t feel too bad about it.
We’ll sit that over here and now, you can take this nut off the back. I’m going to get the camera off the mount here for a minute. I’ll tell you what we’re doing here, now this nut right there, this is the link that goes up to the bottom of the bowl, comes down, there’s a stopper and you lift this, and you lift this rod, up here, this rod, to stop it up, you are, moving this lever right here, up and down, which in turns moves the stopper up and down in here. So this nut that’s right here, this nut got to come off, and then, I’ll show you when that happens when that’s in.
