How to Understand Your Unconscious
On behalf of tvlesson.com, I’m Doctor Robert Hernandez, licensed psychologist and president founder of La Farfalla Retreat House.
Let’s talk a little bit about the unconscious and what does the unconscious really mean or do for us? Well, have you ever have a moment where all of a sudden you were inspired by something? Or another time you had a moment of intuition that just came, popped up in your head? Or have you eve had an intense emotion whether it’s extreme anger or rage or overcome by sudden sadness? All of those are signal that we do have an unconscious and that our unconscious is responding to our reality. What do we do with that then?
One way is to really take the time and be observant. Observe the different reactions that your body has. The body is very close to the unconscious and you’ll always have either something in the pit of your stomach or maybe your face gets flushed or you can’t breathe like you normally do.
Your body is the first to signal that there’s something coming off from the unconscious. One way is always to process what’s going on and really take the moment to either write it down on a journal or better yet, seek the assistance of a licensed mental health professional. They’ll always be able to process the different events that are going on in your life.
The unconscious is there, we don’t have to be afraid of it but it’s very important for us to integrate that into our waking life. The more conscious we are, the more well rounded and healthy we’ll be. And we’ll be able to deal with the different things that come our way in a much healthier manner. However remember, sometimes the journey of processing in what comes up from the unconscious should not be ventured alone and it’s more important to seek the assistance of a licensed mental health professional.
