Male 1: Big news, the iPhone is in.
Male 2: Yes, the 3G Software Unlock is out.
Male 1: And it is for the latest firmware.
Male 2: Yes.
Male 1: For the modem.
Male 2: Yes, so go ahead and update the 2.2. Get your modem at the latest baseband. You have to do it so you are going to have to go into iTunes and do a restore.
Male 1: And it is a very simple Unlock process. It is just a couple of easy steps.
Male 2: Right here we go.
Alright, so this is actually a very simple process, unlocking the iPhone 3G. It requires that you have the latest at the time of this taping, January 1, 2009 baseband on your iPhone and the latest firmware which is 2.2 on the firmware and modem firmware of 2.28.00. So anybody at this point in time can do an Unlock. So it is pretty straightforward if you do not have the latest version on your iPhone, only to do a restore in iTunes or an update in iTunes. Remember, after you restored your iPhone, you will have to jailbreak it again. Refer to one of our previous episodes if you do not know how to use the quick phone tool.
Then launch this application then you need to add a new source. Go ahead and click on Manage, then Sources, click on Edit and then Add. And in the source, you are going to want to add in http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com. After you have the source added, go ahead and tap on the yellow snow source and then in the upper right hand corner, click on install. This will install a little program that runs in the background every time you reboot your phone. So you need to do after it is installed, tap Home and then tap the home button on your iPhone to exit. Hold down the power button and slide the power off and then when you reboot your phone, it will come back unlocked and you can put in any sim card that you want to.
It may take one full minute for it to show up and if it does not after a couple of minutes, if you do not get a signal, go ahead and take out the sim card and reinsert it. For some reason, I had to wait like an hour for mine to work. I do not if it is fluke but it did eventually work. The next thing you are going to need to do as with our previous episodes where I showed you how to unlock is enter in your APN for your data and you are going to want to turn off the 3G mode if your carrier does not support it which means it does with 3G. T-mobile uses a different type of 3G so if you are trying to use T-mobile, you are going to be stack with the edge. So settings, general, network and that is the way you will be able to turn off the 3G and you will be going to be able to enter in the cellular data network and you can look up whatever it is for your carrier union.wap.com and you should be able to go. You have a fully unlocked 3G iPhone. So you should have an unlocked iPhone 3G now.
Male 1: Yes, no more need for a 2G iPhone or hardware to unlock the card thing. That does not work.
Male 2: Hopefully I will be able to use my phone outside of the state. Yes, this state and still have data access. I think that was an issue with the hardware unlocked. I do not know. We will find out.
