Alright, today I'm going to show you how to upgrade the hard drive in your Playstation 3. You're going to need a couple of things. If you want to back up your system, your music and videos and all that you’re going to need a external hard drive like a USB Flashdrive or whatever. You're going to need a new hard drive which I got one here from Samsung. It's still in the packaging. It's a 320 gigabyte hard drive. I'm going from a 40 to a 320. You're going to need a Philip screw driver.
As far as I apply a drive goes, I will be including a video on here for that. We’re going to create an external hard drive for the PS3 hard drive that I'm taking out. But I have already made an external hard drive for this reason.
The external hard drive that I will show you how to do in another video looks something similar to this. This is not it. This is another one that I've done from another hard drive that I created. I’ll give you more information on that on those videos. For right now we’re going to do my hard drive on my Playstation 3.
As you can see, it does have a skin, the controller matches. I bought that skin from Ebay. I bought a lot of things from Ebay. The skin is all the way around. I’ll flip it around here for you. It's even on the back side as you can see.
But me, I like to personally have my Playstation 3 system down like this and I like it a lot better.
Anyway, we’re going to get started on how to change the hard drive. Okay, so we’re going to start with the simple instructions here. I'm going to turn this so you can see. It might be a little hard to work like this.
Anyway, I'm going to use a flat tip screw driver to get this off. It pops off very easily. Anyway, there is your old hard drive, and you take your Philip screw driver and undo the blue screw. Make sure you put it on a safe place. I'm not going to – you know because of the video purposes. I’ll put that over there. And then, it's hard to grab this little handle that pops out. Some play station’s early systems are not like this.
You got to slide the hard drive component over and stuff. Mine, you just pull it straight out just like that. It's very simple. And there is four screws on this sides and you’re going to want to remove those to remove those to remove the hard drive. So I'm going to do that right now. Okay, I now completed unscrewing the four screws of the old hard drive and this here just slide right on out of here. Just like that. This is the old hard drive and I got a little plan for him later.
Okay, here’s the new set of hard drive and I’ll take it out of the static-free bag. Got to make sure you’re working at a static-free area. Okay and you're just going to slide this end just like the other one was. Just like so, and then tighten up the four screws on here.
Okay, now that that part is complete. Now, you can reinstall your new hard drive. Just slide it back in. Make sure it's in the position and then reinstall the blue screw. Then after the blue screw has been installed, you just want to put your face cover right back on which is easy and it just snaps back into position. And there you're all done as far as the technical part.
Now, you can hook your Playstation 3 back up. Turn the power on. And if you saved, you know you backed up your files from the other hard drive then, it's time to restore them under the same menu that you backed them up from.
Lots more room and space for all the goodies that we like to put on there.
And I will show in another video on how to back up your Playstation 3 files and how to restore them.
So, that concludes this edition. This is Scott from Gadget Experts signing off. Please comment and rate. Thank you!
