Robert Heron: To upgrade the memory on your laptop, first shut it down, unplug the AC power cord and disconnect any other cabling to the laptop, including ether net cabling or a telephone modem line. Place a soft cloth or other protective mat on a desktop or table and turn the laptop over, so that its bottom is facing up. Next for your safety, remove the battery of your laptop. Now locate the memory module slot cover.
Using a small Philips head screwdriver, carefully remove the screw that holds the cover over the memory compartment. Ground yourself, before handling the memory module by touching in a grounded metal surface such as the light stand or the center screw on an electrical outlet. To remove the old memory module, carefully release the latches on the side of the module holder; lift it to an approximately thirty degree angle from the bottom surface of the laptop and gently slide the module out of its connector and out of the slot.
To install a new module into an empty socket, carefully remove a new memory module from its packaging. Avoid touching the connectors, doing so can reduce conductivity because of oils on your fingers. Pick up the memory module by its sides and aim its connectors toward the socket. Slide the module in place. Once the module is fully inserted into the socket, press down on the top edge of the device to latch it into place. Replace the memory compartment cover and lock it down with the screw, being careful not to over tighten the screw.
Replace the battery, before tuning the laptop over. Connect your AC power cord in any other cabling you disconnected, before turning on your laptop.
