In this one I want to talk about transmission. Transmission is a default bittorrent client for Ubuntu. Now in this one they’ve updated their features in here. I want to see what version this is, Version 1.40 all right?
Now if you go to the preference here in Edit preference, the updated some new ones like in the peers tab. You can automatically update you blockbust now before you have to manually do it. But now they update it so I dig that one.
The network, I think they updated this or is it the same one but you can do UPNP all right? This is for others that support shit. So you’ll automatically follow your reports and make sure this is open what ever report you have.
And the desktop, I guess they have a hibernation mode but I haven’t really tried it. So I’m going o skip that one.
Bandwidth, this is good for you surfing and you don’t want to have the torrents tagging all the bandwidth. Or if you have a lot of people I your house and you don’t want to slow them down all right? Then you can limit yourself you know, whatever the max speed do you want, upload speed. And also the time of the day, you can limit the bandwidth. Let’s say you want to use your torrent at night because that’s when people don’t use the computer that much. so you can do that you know. Set up what time you want and the bandwidth that you want to use. So that’s good too. I dog those.
But the one I’m talking the most is the WebUI here, the web interface. Now to enable it, give it the listing port. Make sure it’s open too. And you have your username and you type in and the password. You’re going to use this when you use it in the WebUI when you log in okay?
And for down here just leave it alone because you’re not going to do this that much. so when you click Open, it’s going to give you your WebUI and your default browser all right? So let’s turn this off. Your default browser here, all right? And you can see what you’re downloading like I’m downloading the Linux Mint here. And you can see my stats here all right? Over her here to show you stats too and they show you some other stuff but this is the WebUI that you’re going o use like when you’re at your laptop or you’re at work or whatever computer you’re on, this is how it’s going to look like okay?
Now you can see what I pause or seeding? You know by pause let’s see how my positive videos and downloading. This is what I’m downloading all right?
Now, you add a torrent from an external place, let’s say you go to MiniNova and you download Ubuntu right? Let’s say you download Ubuntu, you save the link. And on the File its looks kind to be like this right? It’s going to edit with a .torrent or .torrent or whatever for bitorrent and you’re going to save that. Save it. And now you got to go back to the WebUI. This is how you’re going to do it when you’re not in your main computer all right? So you’re going to add, you’re going to open I guess and when you click on Open you see this thing right? Now, all you got to do is add it in that thing and that you just downloaded you know, your torrent file right? So now that it’s loaded, upload it now. And as you can see, it’s loaded into your WebUI interface and it’s going to connect to the peers and soon it’s going to start downloading. It’s just the same thing but you’re doing this with the browser now okay?
Now you can do it like other stuff on here, like pause and resume and stuff like that, but you still limit it to what you can do you know. if you have in your main computer, you can do a lot more but this is the WebUI that they have right now okay? And you can see your stats here that‘s going up as downloading okay?
Now, if you’re connecting from a computer in your house, you’re using the same IP or you’re using the same router stuff right? And it’s going to look different okay? Right now I’m on my computer, it going to say “localhost” right here right? Localhost, the IP and then the web address. But this localhost is what you cannot change. If you’re from your laptop and you connect to this computer, it’s going to look different because let’s see the computer here. See up here with the icon is at right? so you click on connection information here. And this is your router IP for this computer. So I would have to connect to this IP address from my laptop at home or the other computer at home. I f I wanted to use this WebUI interface. So that’s what I have to copy now. And now that we know the IP, our new IP would be to change this to this. The localhost, we’ll change it to that IP, 192.168.1.100. The last three numbers is always going to be different on the router, that’s usually how it is you know. And that’s how you connect to this computer from your home network.
Now if you’re at your friend’s house, your work or whatever, it’s going to look different. It’s not going to be this IP address because this is your router IP address all right? Now, to get your real IP address, I’ll just recommend going to IPChicken.com. When you go to IPChicken.com, it’s going to look something like this right? The blue numbers is going o be your IP, your real IP for your home computer okay?
So you’re going to copy that and paste it in to whatever you just type in there. So right here it was, I don’t remember what the hell that was but 196 or some shit like that all right? And that’s how you connect when you’re at work, when you’re at your friend’s house, when you’re in your school, you’ll connect to your home computer using the real IP address. And those are the only two differences. One is from your home but not on your main computer, the other one is from an external place that’s not at your home. That does just be it okay?
Now, make sure you have it all set up and you test it up before you do this all this shit all right? I test it out with three of my friends and it doesn’t work. Sometimes it doesn’t because the place or the workplace that they’re at, they block out the IP address or the ports or whatever and they don’t want you to use any bittorrent stuff when you’re at their place.
So, it just depends where you at and that’s about it, that’s how you use to add torrents externally from a web browser and that is called the WebUI interface okay? So try it out.
