Hi! My name is Dr. Gordon Rye. I am a dentist in Fairfax, Virginia. We are talking about teeth whitening. And this clip we are talking about dentist prescribed at-home bleaching kits which have a cost range generally of $250 to $800.
At-home bleaching kits are far superior to over-the-counter products. We make a custom fit try that controls the position of the bleaching agent precisely and that's why they work much better. If you look at an over-the-counter product, this is a try that's formed to your teeth and it's so flexible and uncomfortable, it doesn't have any control over where the bleaching product goes. It can squish out if I tried to adjust this to your teeth, you can see that the bleaching product can go all over the place and that's exactly what happens.
This is a tray that's made to fill precisely over an exact model of your teeth. So we take this tray at home, we put the bleach on the outside edge on the front side of the teeth, and then we place it over your teeth like that, and that makes sure that the bleaching products don't get up on the gums and the bleaching product stays right on the tooth where you want the bleaching to occur.
With regular use, at-home bleaching products take about 3 to 5 weeks to achieve desired whitening. As you can see at-home is bleaching is relatively low cost, but it does take a little bit longer than some of the other procedures that we are going to be talking about.
