How to Use Clip Notes in Premiere Pro CS4
Hey everybody, Dave Basulto at filmmakingcentral.com. We are back in Adobe Premier Pro CS4.
Today we’re going to take a look at one my absolute favorite parts of Premier Pro and that’s the Clip Note Review System they have. It just made things so much easier for me and my clients actually really dig it. So if you haven’t used it, today you’re going to learn how and it’s a great, great edition to the whole workflow.
So I put together some clips from my lovely artbeat.com footage and as you can see it’s three golf clips from my golf footage that everyone have seen. So let’s say I’m now ready to send this to the client maybe I want to see what they think about the edit or they want to add some stuff or whatever.
All I got to do is going to file, export and Adobe clip notes. Make sure that’s your sequence is selected. As you can see I have a sequence too selected. So I’m going to click Adobe clip notes and then I’m going to go through the exports setting. So here I’ve got a format. On Mac, all I have is clip notes quick time, no big deal they can still see it. I’m on presets I’ve got the option of using that just my source NTSC or do I have widescreen PAL, widescreen PAL as well and then my kilobits for second. I have two choices there.
No, I didn’t want that. I want this first one and then might put comments there, of course. I’m exporting both video and audio. I choose my output area. And then when you normally export things you’ll see filters video, audio and others. Well, now you see clip notes here as well. And there are several things that you can do here. Video options, you have the choice of embedding the video and that’s something that I usually do or you can stream it so if you want to actually pick streaming, you just click streaming and then you go down below and put the URL to where you have uploaded the clip and it will screen.
It is a big video and you don’t want the clients getting upset I might do a stream. You can password protect it so I put my password in there, confirm the password, make sure you write it down because you can forget it. And then here you’re going to write your instructions if you have any instructions. This is just generic text that comes with it but I usually allow a couple things in here to personalize it.
And then very important you want in the Return Comments To, you want to put your email address in here so I might do something like claritypictures@mac.com. It’s my production company. And then you just click okay. It will bring it up into the media encoder and it will encode and create a PDF file. So I’ve actually already done this, so I’m going to hide the media encoder. So this opens up and lets you know Manage Trust for Multimedia Content, play at this time or don’t. So I’m just going to choose play and as I said before in the comments window you can left anything you wanted here. This is the generic stuff that comes with the Adobe clip notes.
So we just click okay and here your client or whoever is going to see if they just played through your files. And there’s our footage and then we switch into another one. So let’s say you saw that and wants to go back and it says maybe right here I want to add my logo. That’s all I have to do and then right here, let’s correct this and then over here, we’re going to put Add and Credits and that’s it.
He’s going to put his name in here so it’s going to be Client and now if I just got to the button here if I just scroll through you will see that all my notes are here. It’s great. Now I’m just going to click export and I’m going to export this to my desktop so I just have them there. And a quick note just for that and we’re done so I just hide that for now.
Back in the Adobe Premier, I go to file, import clip notes is not selected, so I have to click and select my sequence. We go to file, import clip notes, comments and my on desktop I am looking for this data XFDF file, click that and it’s imported.
As you could see down here I have chopped re-markers or marker I should say that contain what my notes are so I just double click on them. It says add logo, okay great so I know that at this exact time point the client must have been add the logo. You can go to the next so I note down at this area. He wants me to color correct and then I click next again, add credits, add in credits.
So there you have it. It’s really fast and wonderful to use this to get exact information back from your client or your producer or whoever you’re working with, a director anything. I love Adobe clips note, check them out, Adobe Premier Pro CS4. I’m Dave Basulto. This is filmmakingcentral.com.
