How to Use Facebook Chat in Any IM Client I’m Wilson Tang and I’ve got a video in how to enable Facebook Chat in almost any IM client. You may have heard that Facebook has partnered up with AOL Instant Messenger, so you’ll be able to chat with your Facebook friends in your official AIM client, pretty easy stuff. However, if you’re like most people, you used an IM client like ADMX for the Mac or Digsby or Pigeon for Windows. These clients support multiple IM protocols like MSN messenger and Google Talk. Well, buried in the Facebook and AIM announcement was that Facebook now has Jabber/XMPP support. For none geeks out there that mean you can use Facebook chat in any client that supports Jabber. We’ll walk you through this in iChat on the Mac. In iChat, go to preferences, under the account’s tab; click the plus button and then their account type select jabber. For the account name, enter your Facebook screen name not your log in e-mail. That’s the username that appears on the URL of your profile page then add @chat.facebook.com. Enter your Facebook password and you’re set to go. The process is pretty much the same for any client that doesn’t have made a Facebook support; just your username, plus @chat.facebook.com and your Facebook password. Happy chat.
