I now show you some tools that we’re going to use in the preparation of the care. Let me show you the tools that I use in my preparation.
I use these types of brushes. These were explained in the opening series of this video. That is the dog--that is the brush that I use mainly for the bodywork. That will remove all the clips, all the lugs in your dog’s coat. This one, a smaller edition, I use for grooming the head. I like to use stainless steel comb, coarse and fine. You’ll see how I use this comb later on during this video and I’ll also use a curved pair of scissors and the only time that I use scissors is for trimming around the feet. I like a curved pair of scissors because you need a nice curve going that.
There are other forms that you can use, perhaps if you have a marigold lab, this can be used in the stripping of the coat because you can get a nice, firm grip on the ears with this but personally I don’t use it, what I use is some chalk. Chalk can be obtained from any good pet shop, pet suppliers and this is what I use.
You can, and some people do use a stripping knife. I'm not exactly in favor of using stripping knives on cairn terriers. My theory is that you’ll leave some of the coat in and you rip some of the coat out, you're cutting the coat. Personally, I don’t recommend those but I do recommend that you use the age-old thumb and finger, that to me gives you a cleaner coat, a coat without any dead hair.
