Hello. Recently I bought myself the Sony Mini DV Camcorder and we quite understood about a heck a lot talking its work with Ubuntu.
I’ve done quite a bit research in the matter and it appears to be that there is a problem with Read and Write issues when I used the program Kino. When I surprise I noticed that I can use to import a video. If anybody’s got any suggestions I’d be very grateful please.
Now what I needed to do with do with Kino to get it to work is use the command GKSUDO at the terminal. So if you got a camcorder that you just can't get to it at all, try this. Applications, Accessories, Terminal and Type in GKSUDO Kino. I’m just going to zoom in for you.
Basically what you’ll be doing is that you’ll be using the program Kino as read. And I don’t know what the scotch implications are here because you're going to running in rib but for me personally, I have a choice if I want to import videos through Linux. This is the way I have to do it. I’ve got no choice.
Okay. So the programs are opening up. And what you need to do now is simply click on Capture. What you’ll notice here in the file, the outputted video is saved under root in the capture. What I advice you is change that because what will happen, if it saves into root, you’ll going to go back to root to get the file. So to make it easier, what I advice you is go into your home folder and put another folder there.
Now, to do this, you click on here ‘Browse for a file’. You click on the file system, home, and the name double click on it. And for me, I'm going to go in to videos. I’m going to choose the name “testing” and I'm going to click Save.
So everything will be outputted to your home folder under videos and the name that you give at. In that way you don’t have to go back in to root to get that all the time.
So what we need to do now is find out what we’re going to put on to all that captured in to the computer. And if you notice here, these buttons here will operate your camcorder.
So it’s up to you whether you want to view them because I was been in seconds really seconds. I usually choose minutes. Let’s find out what’s on here.
All right. So what we need to do now is to simply click on capture. And as you can see here it’s starting to record. Now what you going to do is small stop record here. So I’ll stop it now.
At that mode, my camcorder is set on the Video Playback better than the camera. If it’s on the camera, obviously you’ll be able to record it through the system here. and all you nee d to do now once you’ve stopped it, is you need to check that its actually in the place like, I’ll locate it so go to Folder, Videos, and there it is.
Testing. I’m going to copy that on to the desktop. We don’t need Kino anymore. By the way, I've had a bit of a problem with Kino in that. it will seem to cut videos in to two or three parts if it detects a “break in video.” Now, what do we mean by that?
Because when I go out with a camcorder and I take pictures, I often have to stop the video obviously to go to another scene. Now, when I was using Windows Movie Maker, it doesn’t make a difference. It will still record scene to scene. So I could be recording let’s say the view of my little —, and then the next one it could be recording let’s say a view of a link somewhere. Now, Windows Movie Maker would put them into one file as I would stop here as I when I want it to. But what happened with Kino is that it would give me what you’re seeing now, this tab here.
But it would split the Lake up into a different file for some reason as if it’s detected the pause and cut in the video. Now I don’t know if I am doing something wrong or not. I don’t know but that’s seems to be strange what it do now.
But anyway, it’s not like I can do about that. So we’re going to test this output now. So we’ve close Kino down. Close the window there, close terminal down. And just start click on the file that we’ve imported and that’s the output. It’s pretty good. Good quality there. Let’s see as a new short clip.
Now the next stage is I'm going to show you how to upload that in to Youtube or I rather show you how to convert here to get it to the Youtube High Definition size using program WinFF.
And if anybody’s got any tips for me on how to use Kino —, I’ll be very grateful in particular the problem with several files being produced when you’re capturing many scenes. If there’s something I’m doing wrong, please let me know. I’d be grateful.
Thank you very much for watching.
