Hey guys, I’m on Linux Mint 7 and this is a 64-bit RC released, and it’s pretty good to me. I don’t have many problems with it, so let me go into what I said before the last time about Linux Mint.
I still think this is the best distro for new users because almost everything there is you know therefore, you have the flash, the codecs, so there’s no problem okay. So that’s why I dig about Linux Mint just make it easy for me that that’s the basic goal of that Linux Mint okay, so whatever I said before it still applies here. I was to recommend it to any user but mainly for new user because like I said before, it’s easy. It has all the default stuff that I would probably install okay, so that’s that.
Now, back to what I said before about the Mint and install. It doesn’t load all the images at one time anymore so that’s great, that’s updated okay. You know, when you click on the new one they actually just download up here okay, download the screen shot, so that’s great. But they still don’t have the check boxes like I was complaining last time there’s no check box. Now that’s annoying because look at this in the future applications here what they are doing here this – look at this. They have the check boxes where’s the one over here really? Who the hell wants to go one by one? Install and then do it again, no that’s slow.
So this one does not beat the editor and move in Ubunto no, because it looks better but it doesn’t do the job it slows it down actually, and that’s why party popper you know, but you know they’re updating the screen shots really quick I dig that. Other than that is not really that great to me. I still use the Synaptic okay, so that’s that. And it do has some new stuff, some of them I’ll talk. The other one is I really don’t care about. This one is what I like about, it’s the Mint desktop.
Now this one replaces to me Ubuntu Twist because that’s mainly why I used Ubuntu Twist for is because you’re not going to use the gconf-editor, but I don’t remember the – thing. So this one is great because you can go and check what you need. You can do the composition layer I think the metaCD one I think this is it okay. Now you now, like sending you do in Ubuntu twist, so if you see all these craft here over here. You can actually unmount it or never show it again and apply and see it’s all gone, so that’s what I like about that it replaces the Ubuntu twist I don’t really need that – no more, great okay.
And let me see what also they have. I will talk about this, but this is what separates Mint from the Ubuntu. It clearly because it do have these defaults programs that they made. The Mint Backup, the Mint Update, the Mint Nanny, Mintinstall of course.
The Mint Nanny is usually for parents that don’t want their kids to go and search these sites like maybe My Space, Facebook or some porno sites. They don’t want them to go to and just add it in okay, add in the www whatever the hell it is and to block it, and that’s pretty much what the Nanny does.
Mint update of course, and the Mint back up if you want to back up your shit, so that’s mainly what the—up and it give you a firewall too I believe. Fire where the hell it was there you go, Firewall configurations. What the hell is in here? There you go, what is this shit? GUFW okay, that’s the program for firewall. I really don’t ever use a firewall I’m not that paranoid okay, and that’s it. That’s mainly the program as it’s different, and if you have your wire as it doesn’t work you use this one, the end of this craft here, but that’s usually sucks anyways.
So that’s the main difference between the Ubuntus and the Mint. In the Mint, they actually have their own shit that they made okay, so that’s it. For that and I do have something that I’d like here, let me see is the Xchat you know, when you’re a newbie, and you installed Mint and you’re like, “what the fuck? How do I do some of these things?” You don’t know you go over and you ask the people, so that you can chat with them and that’s great. I wish Ubuntu does that, but they don’t.
And another thing that it used to annoy me let’s say —you know before I search for something, they didn’t have this up here the images or that other craft that’s why I hate Mint in the past I’m like, “fuck” when I searched the web and then I want to search the images but it does not any of the craft I don’t know about this craft over here, but that’s pretty cool. They added more than I wanted so that’s good okay, but that’s there now and that’s the add on for Mint and the Firefox, so that’s good.
And what else? I see there is —okay this is something I still hate because Mint is known for easiness and elegance and everything but when you try to add a PPA or repositories you’ve got to do it the hard way because there is no program right now on Mint that actually does that and that annoys the shit out of me. You know in Ubuntu they have stuff resources, and that’s just pretty easy okay.
In Mint, they took that shit out and they have nothing okay, and you know, it get to work on that you know, that’s what I need that’s what people need if they want to add a repositories they probably have to use the terminal right now, and that’s what I really hate okay, so that’s what they are missing in opinion but everything else is pretty straightforward all the pros are installed for you even the MS court files and all that shit, so that’s perfect if you are newbie and everything.
And this program —for other people who are asking me. “Why did you come back to Mint?” I’m back now, bitches okay, so don’t ask me no more. So like I said, Mint is probably the best distro and I wish Ubuntu would take some ideas from Mint you know, even there’s that flash screen and everything it looks nice okay, so that’s that.
