Hey guys, Gerry Button here for Iceberg Creativity. Today, I’m going to be working with screen flow. A desktop recording application for Mac which many people on Mac commonly use for their videos about Mac versus PC or maybe for tutorial, or just to show off their desktop. I love this application. You can actually do a lot more over this then people give it credit. Did you know that I deal a lot of my openings and so forth within this application? I did and you can do it too. It’s quite easy, it’s just a matter of importing the files. Screen flow can actually handle many popular format which is mp3, JPEG, and so forth to make great videos. And I take advantage to this to the fullest and I want to show you guys how to do it. So are you ready? Let’s get started.
You’ll see here on my desktop I’ve got few files all ready to go. I have a jingle garage bin, a blank screed document, a background with text document made within pixometer, an image of a microphone that I’m going to be purchasing soon for Podcasting and tutorials. What we’re going to do is I’m going to double click in the blank document and as you can tell it is blank. There’s no media in here to edit and you cannot change any video properties. And we’re going to import some footage or rather just some files to work with.
The first thing we’re going to do is simply import the audio we’re going to be working with. Keep of know where we are right now within screen flow. We are in the media area. This is where your audio or documents will be managed within screen flow. So if you accidently delete something from the timeline, it’ll still be here but is viewed as an icon so if you’re working with a lot of audio, you might get confused if this is not properly named.
I’m only working with one piece of audio today and it’s just simply called Jingle. So we’ll go to our add media and here it is on my desktop. I’m going to double click to open it and it’ll appear here in my media area. I’m then going to simply drag into the timeline and as you can tell if it two lines, so we can just click it and drag it to make it shorter. I’m just going to make it shorter about right there. Just beyond four seconds. And now we want to add the pictures to our document so we can make some of the background.
Through this, just simply click the add media button again and then choose the two photos you want to work with or whatever you are working with yourself. I’m using just two photos. A microphone picture and a background text picture, and hit open. Now, screen flow by default will record at your screens default size, minus 1440 x 900. Therefore, when I made this background image, I made it 1440 x 900 so it’ll fit at the center of my document.
To add this into the document, I’m just going to double click instead of dragging it to the timeline. One thing to note, wherever the player is, is where it will import. So if I drag it to one second or in between one second, that’s where it’ll appear. I want to play ahead so I’m going to delete it from my timeline, put the play head back to the start and double click.
So by default, this will now go to the beginning of the timeline. Once again, I want it to match up with the audio so I’m going to make it the same size and they’ll snap to place. Now I want to add the microphone image to the default document. So I’m once again, I’m going to double click the microphone image and as you can see, it’s pretty big so we’re going to size it down, making sure when you size down documents within screen flow, you have that document selected on the timeline and not over here. So you’ll get a yellow around your document when selected on the timeline and a transformation box over here.
We’re going to transform this within the video properties menu right here. I’m going to scale it down to 45% and it’s still a bit too big so I’m going to bring it down to about 25% and it fits perfectly. So I’m going to put it right here and just maybe move it right there. Okay, that’s fine. I want this to stay in so what I’m going to do is click right here, bring it to opacity down and then hit play. And now I’m going to add an action. A video action is almost like a transition or it’ll tell screen flow what to do. It’s pretty standard. I’m just going to hit add video action and then once again, drag my opacity bar back to the 100% mark
So when you go back and play, it’ll fade in slowly or fast, whatever way you had made set up. So this is what it’ll look like now.
And there we go. Now, I didn’t resize this so I had to do that now and bring it down. So here we go. When the video finishes now, it’ll stop the video and then boom. It’s done. There’s nothing left and that’s pretty much all the risk. You can take a look at this and say, “Okay well, you can do a lot more with it. You can lower thirds, you can add video within video. We can add video within video within video if you want. It’s all possible within screen flow if you take the time to sit down and just play with all the settings. There’s not much more else I can tell you. Try experimenting with different image formats, audio formats, and just have fun. There’ll be another screen flow tutorial coming this afternoon.
