Male 1: Okay, well if we look at our pro tools screen(ph) here, first, we will talk about the editing tools. Now there is essentially three main editing tools anyway in pro tools so, if we look at our screen, the 1st one we are going to show here is the trimmer.
Now, what the trimmer does, essentially, you start out to take or something and you got a little slop, you want to clean it up or, you know whatever it maybe, essentially, we will look at the screen, we will take our trimmer tool and we are able to clean up all that little slop there and get there nice and tight right to our audio.
Male 2: This is where we only get to hear what was meant to be heard as supposed to this stuff before
Male 1: Exactly
Male 2: After. And it goes both ways, you could trim back if you need to. You could come forward. Also, allows us to trim between regions and pro tools is when we compass as you are going to see. You could see here, the region between one another.
Male1: Somewhere over these spaces that I left or I did not play but there would be noise there or they picked hitting the string for instance that you did not want, you could easily just remove it quickly by using this tool.
Male 2: Exactly
Next thing that we are going to look at is the selector which from the pro tool screen is, the middle one right here. Basically, the selector is just that allows us to just select a piece of audio and take a look at it. We might select a song and just get rid of that, do not need it, delete.
Male 1: Right now, that is the piece that we talked about, replacing.
Male2: Right, now luckily, I could bring that piece right back by undoing and hitting alt plus E. We always need to remember that, alt plus E.
Male 1: But if I changed my mind in other words, it just went, you know what, on second thought, leave it. We are not absent trouble.
Male 2: Now, if I have deleted it, a section of a region, like so, and much later on I wanted to get it back, I could take our trimmer and pull the region back so that our audio would be back again which is essentially, the whole theory of pro tools is, the regions and how we edit all of them, this is essentially a road map of where the audio, what is happening with audio.
Non of these stuff really ever erases our audio or destroys it in any way. Essentially, the editing in pro tools gives a road map of the material that we have record so, as I say, it is completely non destructive.
Male 1: Right.
Male 2: Which is a good thing, you know, do you remember the days ago when slicing and dicing with an analog tape.
Male 1: You know when somebody would make a mistake and you would lose part of the performance, it was not a pretty picture.
Male 2: Yes that was destructive.
Male 1: That is right.
Male 2: Now, our next tool is the grabber. If we look at that, it got a little hand.
Male 1: I see it.
Male 2: That is essentially, it just allows us to move regions around or so.
Now, the greatest tool which I like is essentially all three of them built into one. We call it the Smart tool or 3 in 1 tool. Essentially with the 3 in 1 tool, depending on we were at, we were at on the region, gives us those different tools. Now from down here, we have a grabber from over in the middle here we have our selector. When I am over here, I have my trimmer. So, I tend to stay, once you really get the feel of Smart tool, you always want to stay in Smart tool because any or not, it is fresh between your, the grabber and your trimmer and (voice overlap)
Male 1: Any editing can be done easily
Male 2: Exactly
Male 1: In a minimum amount of time.
Male 2: So, those are your 3 editing tools in pro tools. You see how it starts to take the mystery out of this whole thing? It is really pretty easy.
