Male 1: One thing that I always see Bob, is zipping around a lot is, I always see you going, you will sit or you will audition one chorus then you will audition a later chorus within the song, you have to extract there, get a comparing. Vocal takes whatever it may be and you will be zipping from that one chorus just like that as if you were being him(ph), not clicking around or finding the second chorus so, we are going to show how to do that. Basically that is setting up location points in pro tools that allow you to just snap to a section to a song right away and it is just also a good way to know where you are at within the arrangement.
Male 2: Yes, and another good time saving.
Male 1: Exactly, as I see you go in first chorus, second chorus, first chorus, second chorus, just like that. So, we are going to show how to do that today. So, if we look at our screen, where we have a one way to do this is where we have our cursor set (demo)
Let us say we want that downbeat right there, we want a location there so, click right there and we will go to our locations window, now if you do not see your memory locations window when doing pro tools, it is really easy to find. We can go to windows, show memory locations.
Male 2: It is great with all these clearly mark
Male 1: Yes, and other way to do that (voice overlap)
You just got to know where to look and another way to do that is Apple 5.
So, we are setting the location right there, so, we are going to our window, we will hit name and it will say add memory location. So, it will allows us to name that memory location. Oh, and then we have another memory location. So, I have this one started from Bob Solo and you could also move your memory locations too to get really tight. We come up here, we look at our screen, it is pointing to the memory location. You could move it and get it nice and tight in there. So when we click on it in the memory locations window (demo)
Right there, so, let us say I want to skip to that downbeat
Male 2: It is great
Male 1: So, we go right back, step right down, so, that is how Bob does his chorus a being(ph) especially listen to it
Male 2: That may take some time
Male 1: What vocal take is the best thing then I will come and go, you know I break(ph) that second chorus
Male 2: Let us use that, let us apply that one in you know
Male 1: So, another way to setup location which is the way I love to do it is just doing it real time as you will see down in your arrangement (demo)
You just set the enter key all the way in the right hand corner of your keypad. You just hit enter and your memory location comes right up and there you go.
That is another really neat way to do that. A special 2 ways of getting our memory locations and that to get rid of memory locations that you do not need any further and look at our screen here, we can go right up in another time line, we can highlight it and delete or with a little finer we can just and they are gone. And that is it
Male 2: Just that simple
Male 1: Just that simple.
That is a nice way to have your session setup so that you could just you know, rip across the different sections of it (snap) just on a night
Male 2: Which may become really useful, depending on the usage.
Male 1: Absolutely.
