Hi, everybody this is Kristine Orbit with BoneheadSCO.com. And today I am just simple going to take you through a very quick tutorial on how to set up your own Twitter account and use it properly. If you haven’t done that already, now if you don’t know Twitter is a website were you can update your status as often as you like. And your status is anything such as what are you doing right now, a link that you like a post that you made on your blog anything like that.
Your updates in Twitter are limited to 140 characters, so Twitter as well as other websites that limit your updates to the small bite size pieces of text are often called micro blogs. Now the purpose of Twitter is to build your brand, interact with others, share links and simply grow your business. Now to get started, the first thing that you want to do is set up a Twitter account if you haven’t already. Just simply go to Twitter.com and click on the green sign up now button. Just simply enter in some very basic information about your self and when you're all finished just simply click create my account. Now once you account has been created, the next thing that you want to do is logged into Twitter. Now once you’re logged in the very next step that you want to take is to set up your profile, after you’ve logged in click on settings on the top right hand side of the page and then click account if you’re not already there.
Add your name, your website address, your location and most importantly a Bio about yourself. This Bio were just little short biography will be one of the most important factors that help others decide to follow you on Twitter and follow your updates of not. Simply tell people what you do and whom you are, now it’s limited to 160 characters, so at this point your going to want to pull out your best writing skills.
Now the next things that you want to do is click on picture and add a profile picture preferably one of your self, if you use the default icon that Twitter gives you, this is going to limit the number of people who will follow you. Fourth, design your background by clicking on design. Now if your just starting out you can simply choose the default design that Twitter offers. However, you will eventually want a costume background for your business or your web site. There are many services online that allow you to do this for free. So if you head to your favorite search engine just simply do a search on Free Twitter Backgrounds and they should pull up a lot of options for you.
The next thing that you want to do is start to make some status updates, just simply in the box underneath “What are you doing?” let people know what you’re working on right now, what are you doing right now? What are you working on? Did you find an interesting link that you like to share? If you’re brand new to Twitter and you don’t yet have a lot of status updates and this are also called the Twits or does status updates are nothing but trying to sell something you won’t get many followers which is key to Twitter. Instead, you want to post in formative updates, interesting links and anything else that you would like to share with out those links being self-serving.
The more Twist that you make on Twitter and the more often that you do so, the better the chances you have of getting more Twitter followers. And keep in mind that each Twit is limited to a 140 characters and so when you share a link especially the characters in that link will be included in your 140 character limit.
Now next do you want to start to get some new followers, just simply click on Find People and then start to enter a name into the search box. Now you can also connect to your G-mail, your Yahoo or you AOL email accounts and find people that you might already know. Who are already using Twitter, additionally if there are people whose web sites you visit on the regular basis, chances are they have a Twitter account. If we take Google for example and head over to Google blog.blogspot.com, you will see that Google actually has an entire list of accounts on Twitter that you can choose to follow.
And finally, don’t be afraid to tell the people that you have a Twitter account because this will help you in getting more twitter followers. The button line is with Twitter establishing trust first and then choosing to market to those people later is key to your Twitter success. No one wants to be marketed too all of the time. So you should make your Twitter account something helpful to others first and foremost and make the helpful post a majority of the Twist or the status updates that you make. You can still market to your followers, you just don’t want to do so that comprises of us majority of your status updates.
