All right kids, today we are going to be talking about how to use a Kepo and this is a supplementary video to the guitar lesson E book that you can find at yourguitarstage.com. In that E book you are going to find lessons on strumming, how to read sharps, how to use Kepo, your basic open chords. Basically, it is about a 25 page document or so with half of those being sharps. Those exampled sharps but half of that is going to specifically show you how to use a Kepo, some basic open chords to play millions of songs. We will give you access to hundreds of charts that I have done personally online. So check that out at yourguitarstage.com.
So let us jump into it. This is a Kepo if you have not seen it before. For those of you that are trying to learn about Kepos, this is a shove. This is a brand name shove and this is a G7. That is what I am going to be using today. Basically, Kepo is a little device that musicians use on stringed instruments. What it does is it allows you to play in different keys without having to play about your bar chords and bunch of frustrating chords that are just hard to handle. So for instance, you know your basic chords here. I am just going to throw some basic chords out here. We have a G, D, and C that let us say you wanted to play this and it is all in different keys so we want to play this up a half step and again half steps are each flat. The whole step would be the difference between two clefts. So let us say we wanted to play this progression D, C, again G, D, C.
Okay, we wanted to do that but then it works that was in the key of G, D and C and we wanted to this say a whole step up higher and we take this and we move it. This being the nut, we are going to go up one whole step, so half step, whole step and take our Kepo, put it on there, clamp it down. Now when you are using Kepo, you want to make sure that you are not, well this is a specific type, this specific Kepo here you can adjust how hard it is clamped on the guitar and same thing with the shutter but things like the Keiser and little bit more affordable Kepos. They just kind of clamp on there, that is fine for most part of the acoustic guitars. You will find that acoustic guitar strings are tuned out just a little bit so these are nice and adjustable. So we are going to put this here at the second fret.
Now, what we can do is we can play the same chords but we can find them in a different key but of course we are not going to play the chords down here because we have this Kepo on my way now right? I am going to play it up. So when I put my Kepo up the whole set, I am putting my hands up the whole set as well. So you have G, D and C except they are not G, C and D anymore because we just changed the key. So that sometimes you will chart and what you have in the internet and will say Kepo3, G, C, D. Well, that means Kepo3, G, C, D but we are really not in the key of G anymore because we have used this Kepo kind of like electronically tuning your keyboard up or something like that.
Okay, that is how we use Kepos. I have a whole lesson on how to use Kepo and how to transpose. Know what key you are in if you are playing a particular tune that says, “Hey, you are in the key of D here, do you like a G and an A?” And if I wanted to say, play that same thing with a C feel, I could go C, F, G. But with Kepo on the second fret, so that is probably a little bit confusing to you without showing the other theory behind it but check out the lesson at yourguitarstage.com. I go into it in details.
So that is it for today. Thank you so much for stopping by and keep checking our site out. I will be adding more videos weekly.
