Using a Nebulizer with a mouth piece or a Mask.
This device is called a Nebulizer. Medication is placed inside the Nebulizer. The air flow from the air-compressor turns the medication into mist that is inhaled.
There are many types of Nebulizer and air-compressor units. Before you prepare a Nebulizer treatment, be sure you wash your hands. Use a clean Nebulizer and place the medication inside the Nebulizer, connect the tubing from the Nebulizer to the air-compressor and put the Nebulizer lid on, attach the mouth piece or the mask to the Nebulizer.
A mask is generally used for a child five and under. Older children and adults generally use a mouth piece. Turn the compressor on and make sure they Nebulizer is misting.
If using a mouth piece, put the mouth piece between your teeth and close your lips around it. Hold the Nebulizer in an upright position and gently breathe in and out while the medication mist.
If using a Mask, place the mask over the mouth and nose, hold the Nebulizer in an upright position, gently breathe in and out while the medication mist. Occasionally tapping the side of the Nebulizer helps the medication drop to where it can be misted. Continue breathing in and out until the medication starts to spatter, this means that most of the medication has gone.
It is very important to clean and dry the Nebulizer unit correctly, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for care and cleaning the Nebulizer equipment and be sure the Nebulizer is completely dry before storing it.
