How to Use a Pressure Cooker

Lady 1: We’re going to make black beans stew in the pressure cooker but I thought before I leapt into that, I should show you a few things about the pressure cooker. I love using a pressure cooker because you need less water so you lose fewer nutrients. It really speeds things up. You can make things faster and the flavors really go deep, deep into the food. I don’t know why but they just do. Guy: Sure. The temperature in a pressure cooker can get higher than boiling and that’s why you can cook things faster in there. So a lot of people are, whoa, I just have some water in here. A lot of people are afraid of pressure cookers because they think that they’re going to blow up. But today’s pressure cookers are made so that, and they have this little safety gauge on them and you can’t open that thing until the pressure’s down. So there’s no worries. It’s no worries, right? Lady 1: Then when the timer goes off, Nod I don’t know where it is. I think you were the last one to use it. When the timer goes off, you’ve got to allow the pressure cooker to calm down and the best way is just to put your hands bound and just wait for it to calm down. It just takes about five or 10 minutes. If you were in a big hurry, like you’ve felt like there was a burn in there or something, you could take it over to the sink and run a little cool water over at the top like this… yeah… Guy: Jane where’s the broom?
