Hey everybody, I’m Eric Stromer. Today, I want to talk to you about a great tool called the router. This is a welcome edition to anybody’s tool collection especially if you want to get in to fine finish work.
For example, on the cosmetic end of things, if you’re creating beautiful doors with rounded over edges or trimmed detail that you might see an old fashion kind of crown molding, this is the tool for you. This is about a $150.00 to $300.00 item or you can rent it at your local hardware store. It works as follows. There’s a routing bit underneath which actually can be changed out to have any particular configuration of trimmed detail that you want.
There is also this collet. Now, this collet rests on top of the surface that you’re about to cut with the router and gives you the ability to depth gauge. Now, this particular router has a digital depth gauge where you can actually program in what depth you want all the way down to a 16th of an inch, so that you have the exact same results everytime you use this particular router.
Let met show you how it works, it’s very simple to operate. First and foremost, you want to safety up. Check this out.
As you can see from one pass of this router you can create intricate trim detail every single time guaranteed perfect all the way around the service that you’re working on.
Now, the great beauty of this tool is that again you can interchange these blades to cut any pattern that you want. Sometimes the blades are sold separately usually the routers come with a series of very rudimentary blades.
If you want the ability to create beautiful trim pieces, cabinet door finishes, plunger out designs, this is the tool for you. Go out and get yourself a router, I’m Eric Stromer.
