Dick: Timber!
Laura: Hey Dick, are this the four axes that we are looking at previously?
Dick: They sure are.
Laura: Yes.
Dick: And, I fell this tree so that you can learn how to use an axe and the people who are watching can also.
Laura: Great!
Dick: And so now, what we want to do always work under the umbrella of safety number one. So these things that we are going to look at here apply to that as well as to good chopping. So first, what we want to do is size the axe properly for the job, we can see that is pretty inadequate little axe for it, this one which unnecessarily large. Now, what we want to do size this properly for you and the way you do that is to put them in your armpit and then reach down the handle and see were your hand comes, now you see it is too short, your hands away over the handle. Now try it with this one, there you go, now it is little bit long but that is an advantage in terms of the power your swing to have a little extra length, okay.
Laura Okay.
Dick: So now, what we do after that is we look around and make sure that when we swing this axes, there is nothing in our way as we move. Then I position myself to the piece of wood by stepping up here and making sure that when I am in the final position of the chop, I am comfortable, so then I bring back over my shoulder and when I bring it down, I am bringing it down with the force my of body.
Laura: Right.
Dick: Just lots of people just chop with their arms, we want to chop with our body, see how deeply that sinks in when I hit?
Laura: Because it is gives you more power.
Dick: Because gives you more power.
Laura: Right.
Dick: Your turn.
Laura: Okay, so…
Dick: Hands together.
Laura: Hands together, feet apart.
Dick: What make you measurement, step up and make your measurement, okay, that looks good. Alright, go for it, alright and again…
Laura: Wow!
Dick: Alright, good girl.
Laura: One more time, tell me about the three main key ingredients here in terms of safety first.
Dick: First, got a size the axe correctly.
Laura Right
Dick: Then, you have position your body right.
Laura: Okay
Dick: And then you got the use right technique which is using whole body.
Laura: Right, okay. Let me try a couple more times, okay?
Dick: Please. Hands together
Laura: Hands together
Dick: Good, alright girl
Laura: Yes.
Dick: Larger, alright.
Laura: It feels great!
Dick: Wonderful exercise!
Laura: It is very empowering.
Dick: Take off the pounds.
