Hey everybody, Neal here from GuitarTricks.com. We got your wa wa lesson this week. Using the wa wa pedal, request from one of our subscribers on YouTube from Yurcuppacoffee. This one’s for you.
Tip of the week is on a neck bend. This is a real cool tool you can use on stage or wherever you're playing. Basically, just give it a little slight bend of the neck. Cool little effect drops the pitch down a little bit. You can do it with one hand too. That’s still two hands. Just do it with two hands.
On to our lesson, how to use a wa wa pedal. Right here, I got a wa wa pedal. I got the basic cry baby and all the wa wa pedal is, is a tone knob that’s attached to a little gear and your foot controls the tone knob. So if I'm just using the tone knob on my guitar, you're going to have those basic treble and now the wa wa pedal is do that with the foot control.
There's a lot of different ways to use the wa. You can count in time with the music. you can use it as a sweeping sound if I'm doing a twirl and also if you're holding chord. It’s good in the open part of a song. The way I like to use it the most is when I'm doing string bends, bending up, you add the wa to the bend and it gives it a more extreme sound especially if you're on high notes. And you could do a, if you want to goof around, you can do that funny little laugh at it or the cat call. Add it in there. it gives a little bit more voice like somebody’s talking.
Also, you can leave it on in a full-4 position or any position you want just to add a little tone. I'm going to leave it on in a full-4 position or a back a little bit. Axl did that by accident during a recording and the solo came out sounding like a harmonica. It had the wa on and it was in the full-4 position. It came out sounding really cool, total mistake.
So there’s some tips you can use to get started on a wa pedal. Hope to come in handy. And thanks for watching. It’s really cool interacting with everybody here. feel free to leave me a request right here on YouTube and I’ll see if I can get one out to you. Jam out. I'm going to wa right now.
