To find help in Access, click the Help button on the far right side of the ribbon. You will see this blue question mark, way over here. you can also open the Help window by clicking F1 on your keyboard. The Help widow usually opens to a very small screen; you can maximize it by clicking the Maximize button on the top. Here is another quick little tip for you. If you manually resize the Help window to a larger size instead of clicking Maximize, Access remember that size the next time you open it.
What you see in front of you is the Homepage for the Help Topics. The homepage shows links that you can click to receive immediate help on specific topics. You will see additional key feature links on Access 2007 at the bottom of the homepage. For example, on my screen you will see Guide to the Navigation Pane, Import or link to data in the text file and Which file format should I use in Access 2007? On your screen you may see different links as Microsoft will update these links from time to time. Up on the upper left corner, you will see a Search box and in here you can type in a certain search criteria that you like to find in the Help file.
What I am going to do, is search for Quick Access Toolbar. So I am going to type in Quick Access Toolbar. Now I am going to click Search, you could also hit Enter. You will notice, Access Help returns several topics based on our criteria. Down below, you will see Move the Quick Access Toolbar and Customize the Quick Access Toolbar. Let's click on this one and you will see a specific help topic dealing with customizing the Quick Access Toolbar, and if I scroll down, you will see this help screen has some screen shots of the Quick Access Toolbar, specific directions on how to customize a Quick Access Toolbar.
Access 2007 Help has seen a lot of improvement in the help engine and search criteria. Up near the top, you will see a Back arrow and a Forward arrow. If you click the Back arrow, Access will take you back to the previous topic that you were working on and if you click the forward, you can go back. So you can use these to navigate back and forth between the various pages.
The next button over is Stop. If you need to stop downloading in a particular help topic, you can click this button to stop it. The next button over is Refresh. If you need to refresh this page, you can click this button and Access will refresh the page. Click the Home button now and Access returns you to the Homepage of the Access Help. The next button over is Print. If you like to print a specific topic, you can click this button to open the Print dialog box to print that specific topic.
The next button over is Change Font Size and this has a little arrow up at the top. If you click this button, you have five options to change the font size of the help topics. If they are a little small for you, the default is Medium. So you can adjust that to Largest or Larger if you like to see a larger print, or if you want to see smaller one, you can select the two options, Smaller and Smallest. Click the arrow to dismiss that box.
The next option over is Show Table of Contents. Let me show you want this does. If you click that, you will see a Table of Contents pane up here on the left side, and you will see lots of categories and options. You can browse for a specific help file among the branches of these particular topics. For example, if I click this Data collection, you will see the branch open up and there are several topics dealing with the data collection topic. To close the Table of Contents pane, click this X in the right corner, and Access closes it. What I like you to do next, is click the Resize button in the upper right corner of the Help Window.
This brings it back down to a smaller size, so I can show you the next option. This is Not On Top, this is a toggle button. This button alternates between two settings, Not On Top and Keep On Top. If you select Not On Top, Access hides the Help window if you set focused to the main application window. Right now, it's selected on Not On Top. So if I move my mouse over and click any
