This is a quick tutorial on how to do some effects in photo shop. On the left side we have the original image and on the right side we have an image after it has been cut out. And when we are going to cut out an image, we are going to use the Polygonal Lasso tool on the tool bar.
Some people use the magic wand and this is incorrect, we want a nice, clean cut edge without any white areas around the image. Using the tool, we are going to click around the edge of the image that we do not want on the picture and we will click repeatingly tracing the image. Once it selected you had delete on your keyboard, it will get rid of what you do not want in the picture.
Now, we are going to add a new layer underneath the original image so that we can see the cuts and make sure there are no white areas or areas that need to be cut out. You will see that layer with the picture is above a bull color layer, I need a bright color so we can see the edges and make sure everything is cut out blue
Now, we are going to insert another layer and we are going to put the picture behind the original picture, and this can be anything you want, fire or any kind of scenery just to change the image of the picture itself. You will see on the layer pallet that the fire is underneath the original picture, you can move layers up and down by grabbing the layer and dragging it.
Now, from the layer pallet we are going to choose an effect for the layer, we are going to choose green, you can see that there is several options to choose from because green is good when you are layering image on top of each other. You notice when we did this that the image turn to white, now we have like a white fire, you can play with various things on the layer to get a different effects.
Now, we are going to use the eraser tool and we are going over to the edge is that we do not want to make a nice blend on the image. Once we select the eraser, we want very large erasers so that it gets nice, soft touch, you do not want it small, the small one because it will not cut right. Notice the eraser I put it on the very edge and we are just going softly get rid of that.
Notice we are on the layer that we are erasing. Now, we have just put another picture under the fire by doing a new layer, you can see that the fire shows through on the original layer. This is the layers pallet you will see how there is an image under the fire and we simply duplicated the fire layer to make it a little brighter. You can duplicate a layer simply by clicking on it instead of duplicate.
Once you learned to work with layer you can do all kinds of effects in photo shop, you just saw some of the works that I have done throughout the years, for various client.
