Hey! Guys Chris again from our ClassicVWBugs.com and in today's tip I want to talk about winterizing your bug. I actually got this an interesting email a couple of weeks ago in regards to how do I winterize my bug. So I thought that would be a good topic to share with you today. I live up here in the northeast in New York area, so it's starting to get cold here, it's right before Thanksgiving, above 8, and it's starting to getting cold here and people will start putting away their classic cars for the wintertime and ready for the spring.
But some guys asked me if I put additives in my fuel that they sell at the Autozone or any of the auto part store around in your local area. They sell these additives to put in the fuel so the fuel doesn't get all sticking and grimy and it doesn't get that smell of fuel because the fuel it is sitting for a long period of time would start to smell like turpentine and that's not what you want going through your fuel system.
What I usually like to do, is basically I'd like to run my car whether it's just sitting in the garage, just run it a couple times of week may be three-four times a week, just to keep the engine running. I let it run for about half an hour so just to keep it warm, keep the fluid is going right and you should be fine just doing that, you don't really have to put the additives in.
Also if you are not going to run it at all up and down the street at least, some people, you know they jack the car upon jack stands so the weight on the tyres doesn't make them out of round or out of balance or anything like that so I will still try to drive it whether it's just touring around town or something just to keep them running and just to keep the car moving. You got to remember Volkswagens are made to be everyday cars. The people's cars of course and just for knock around and doing what you have to do every day.
So that's what I would do to winterize the bug. I mean you just keep it running a couple of times a week, fire it up and you know if it's not too salty or what not outside to if you are afraid of rust then I would just jack the car up and keep the pressure from of the tyres and that's really about it and if you want to have - you have it in the garage and you want to cover it, that's fine too and that's basically it.
Alright, winterizing your bug and also I want to point out and I just started making my own T-shirts. So if you want some of my T-shirts, they even have stuff fitted on the backs and have all different adds, the advertisements and what not from the old bug days, when they used to have a great Ad campaign and I sort of put some of on the T-shirts, it's pretty cool.
You can get that all at classicVWbugs.com. Take care.
