How to Wood Grain using Paint

Kristy: Well how about getting the look of wood without using wood? You can do it with paint and Sandra from Faux like a Pro is going to show us how to do it. Now Sandra this so cool because this is natural piece of wood and this is the paint. Sandra: That’s right and was done with painted glaze and we are going to create this one today. Kristy: So we are going to start with this paste color? Sandra: Yeah that’s the paste color under the oak and we are using the Faux like a Pro glaze and what we did here was actually add black paint and this tool is called the check ruler and it’s fabulous because it’s going to create these little tiny parts just by rolling the tool. Kristy: Okay so you are already creating the green? Sandra: Yeah. Kristy: Okay we done with the check rolling pattern. Sandra: So the next step we are going to add another layer of colors. Kristy: Now is the brush important for this for doing with green? Sandra: Yeah the brush will be important and we actually for now we are just using the regular cheap brush. Okay, now we are going to go to with called a flogger so what I am going to do is I am actually take the tool and you pull off like this and drag right through it okay. Kristy: Yeah that’s great. Sandra: Okay and then you have a rug near you and you always upload onto the rock and then you slap. Kristy: Flog it. Sandra: You plug it. Kristy: I love that way by the way. Sandra: You see the difference. Kristy: Yes. Alright next is the silver greening stuffing tool, rubber right? Sandra: Yeah, this is rubber sculpting tool in basic we are going to create a pattern that’s going to open up the glaze is called silver grain. And it’s very loose, you kind to rock the tool and now see the glaze, it’s kind of separating there? Kristy: Yes. Sandra: So this is a bad drop and just by creating this figure ace we are going to just soften those. Kristy: So you need some special tutorials when you doing with that. Sandra: Oh absolutely. Kristy: Okay the panel is dry and we are ready for out last coat? Sandra: Our last coat, this our warm color and actually just by brushing this is creating a warm tone and we are going to vary this product. Kristy: You know what I can see just by adding this last color that’s actually looks more like wood now. Sandra: And it’s a building process, this is called the pencil driver and it’s great. Kristy: Yeah. Sandra: This is actually dry and you have to let dry you know 24 hours and between but really the wood actually is they didn’t have this right tones or in there but it’s not the dominant color so we going to go back to there color where we use any so the red is now underneath. Kristy: Oh yes, the richer now? Sandra: That’s much richer. Kristy: I just think it’s so cool and made these grains with the piece rubber? Albright our panel is dry and we are ready for our very last step which is the varnish? Sandra: Which is the varnish yeah, 100% acrylic satin varnish. Kristy: Alright and then when we’re done, we have a panel like this it’s look like natural wood just check a few use of steps.
