So I showed you guys how to put clips on the Timeline. Now I am going to show you how to start taking stuff away. One of the basic ways to do that is actually razor blade the stuff that you don't want and then clear it out. I am going to show you with the beginning frames of the Scenic_Park_2_WS.
Again, bring your playhead to the beginning of this shot and use your Right Arrow key to scrub over a couple of frames. Now you will notice I left a couple of frames there to trim off. Alright, her leg just entered the frame, so I am going to go back a couple of frames and she is not in frame.
So those few frames right there, I am going to grab my Razor Tool. We are going to get rid of those few frames. Now I am just going to cut where my playhead is, then I am going to press the V to get my Selection Tool out. I am going to right-click and I am going to Clear that clip out of there.
Alright, so we got rid of those frames. We left ourselves a gap. If you want to get rid of the gap, grab the clip and just push it over to our other clip. That's one way to get rid of the gap. Now I am going to hit Ctrl+Z to undo that movement and I will show you another way to get rid of that clip. I am going to hit Ctrl+Z again and make sure my cut is still there. I will right-click and I will go do a Ripple Delete. What that will automatically do is ripple down the rest of the clips on the Timeline in order to fill the gap that I would be leaving.
Let's hit Ctrl+Z once because that was only one step this time. Now I am going to show you how to use lifting and extracting. Those are these two buttons over here in your Program Panel. These are pretty much the direct opposite of inserting and overlaying and I will show you how that happens.
Go back to our Timeline. I am going to Arrow over on the scroll bar, so we get a better view of the two clips that we are going to be lifting and extracting. Click on the time ruler and I am going to use this time ruler to scrub over to the moment where she does leaves the frame. Now remember, I left those extra frames on purpose.
So this is where she leaves the frame and what I am going to do is I am going to press I to mark an In Point. When I press I to mark that In Point, I am actually using this In Point over here in our Program Panel. I am going to go to the cut that I made in the Scenic_Park_2_WS clip and I am going to mark an Out Point there.
When you mark in and out points, that will allow you to start using the Lift and Extract buttons in your Program Panel. What I am going to do first is I am going to show you the Lift. When I do the Lift, that pretty much just takes out the section of the Timeline that we in and outed, but it didn't close the gap. So if you want the gap for any reason, if you want to insert another clip or move stuff around, it will give you that flexibility.
Well, what I wanted to do is bring the Scenic_Park_2_WS over to the Pier_GoLeave_4_XWS. So I am going to hit Ctrl+Z to undo my lift. Instead of doing the Lift, I will use the Extract. What the Extract does is it will ripple down with what's on the Timelline and eliminate the steps I would have needed to either move the clip over or do a Ripple Delete in that gap. That's how you use your lifting and extracting buttons.
