How to Work a Drop Shot Rigg

Hey everybody on YouTube, it's Roger the ExBassGuide again, and I am going to show you how I work a drop shot.

Now, you can rig a drop shot wacky or nose hook it, just like that. I am fishing from shore, so you can put on a fair amount of weight and still fish the bait weightless. So what you do is you cast it out. It's going to hit the bottom pretty quick, you can go way out there on a cast, you can get way out in that water, farther than you can with a lot of bait, because you will have a lot of weight. But yet you can fish that bait very effectively with no weight to the bait itself.

So it's on the bottom, reel in the slack. I like to shake it with the rod fairly high, and you shake it softly, just quiver it there. What you can do is give it a pop or two, try to pull those fish in if they are not right on it after the initial cast. Shake it.

Now, I am going to move it. I am using some rod. So what I am going to do is I am going to pick it up and move it towards me about 2 feet or 3 feet, do the same thing. Shake it, just quiver it, don't try to move the weight, just try to move the bait, you are shaking the slack a lot. Then stop, let it fall back down.

The fish are looking at it, it falls down, and when it picks back up, a lot of times they will whack it. So try a few of these tips and you are going to catch a lot of fish from shore, cast it way out into the river or the lake.

This is the middle of February, water temperature is 36 degrees, likelihood of catching a fish, pretty remote. I am just here trying to show you the techniques I used to catch 700 bass a year, like I did last year.

So these are really good techniques, and you can catch a lot of fish. There's an extra weight on that, so that was straight, like a weed or a stick. But you always want to feel it and check it.

With the exposed hook, you just want to sweep into them. You don't want to have to set the hook. If you are not sure you have got a good hook set into them, stick it to them again on the way back in.

This is a great smallmouth lure, works extremely well. I fished this in 60 feet of water, and one after another. I fished it in three feet of water and whacked them great. This is a great bait for shore fisherman. It's a great bait for a boat fisherman. This is a bait everybody should be fishing, or know how to fish, and they haven't figured it out already.
