Hi this is Dave Collins from Shareware Promotions with the special Butterscotch.com series on Google ad words. This is part four “Writing Killer Ads”.
When it comes to creating ads in your new ad words account, you have to main sources of inspiration. You own knowledge and ideas on what it is that you hope to sell. Another ad such as displayed in Google. Wherever you get your idea, it’s a good idea to have a wide variety of very different ads, because there’s no way of saying that this stage, which ads are going to work and which aren’t. As an approximate rule of thumb, I recommend an absolute minimum of four ads in any ad group.
So we are now going to create four very different ads. So we’ll choose the campaign, in this case, initial campaign. Select the relevant ad group, ad group one in this case. We’ll make sure that the ads tab is selected, and then we’ll see our place hold around that we placed there when setting up the account. From here, we’ll click on the new ad button and then select text ad from the drop down, and we then have the area where we’re going to enter our ad.
I recommend creating your ads in an area outside the ad words interface, as it’s then easy to simply copy and paste each section of the ad into the interface. So, we’ll begin by selecting the headline, entering our ad, and we’ll then do the same for the description line one and description line two. We are then going to change the display URL by simply adding “www” at the beginning. And then all that’s left is to enter the rest of the destination URL. Then click on the ‘save at’ button, and our ad has been saved. This point is worth clicking on the URL just to make sure that the ad works, here that we see that the ad worked absolutely perfect.
So we now add our other three ads in exactly the same way. Click on new ad, choose text ad, and then add the relevant parts of the ad, click on save ad, and repeat the process again. If we then scroll down the page a little bit, you can see our four ads setup on the original place holder that we can now delete simply by selecting the check box, choose change status, click delete, click okay for the confirmation and it’s gone. All that’s left to do now is to activate of paused campaign, so if we go back to all online campaigns, show campaigns, we can see that this initial campaign is paused, and if we change by clicking on the dropdown to enabled, our first campaign is now live.
