How to add a Custom Site Search box to a Website

Hey Howie Jacobson here, with AskHowie.com and lately I have been really into finding out what my visitors are doing on my website using analytics, using usability testing tools and today I want talk about the customs search widget from Goggle that I’ve got for free for which people can search my site for anything they want.

So you can see it right here I just put it in yesterday and someone can come in here and they can type say content network and do a search and what they’ll then get is a Goggle results space which is custom and only will it show results, organic results if you will from AskHowie itself and see these three pages of those plus it also shows ads by Goggle here and here.

So, I’m not crazy about those but I want to try it out free first before paying for so let me show how I did it .I went to a Google.com/coop/cse custom search engine, and I already created one. You’re going to go create a custom one I’m going to manage my existing ones but if you just want go ahead and do it you’ll get to the same page I’m just going to manage existing ones in here now create a new search engine.

So, Search engine name I want to call it AdWords Help and Tips and the Search engine description is going to be AdWords stuff from askHowie. It could be in English, only sites I suggest I select so askhowie.com and if you Google the standard edition you do this one or the business edition do that one so again, read the Terms of Service.

And if you have more than one sites if I want to see people to Howieconnect.com and magicadwordsbutton.com and loweryourbedprice.com and I would then go there and you can try it before you’re actually done so then I would go for let’s say AdWords reports, so Magic AdWords Button is the first one to comes out then askHowie then loweryourbedprice so it’s working. It’s getting all of those.

And when you’re done you can send the confirmation email and go to Finish and now so AdWords Help and Tips is the new one here, so if I want to go and get the code I go to the Control panel and click on Code and hosted on a Google page just click and copy that and then all I did was go to my website and put it right in there and there you have it.

Now because it’s worth it to me to not show all the other results I’m going to go and create a paid one for $100 a year, one and a half bucks a month and what that’s going to give me is, it’s going to give my visitors a very convenient way to find stuff they want in my site. It’s also going to give me information on keywords what people are searching for, so If I found that lots of people is searching for something I don’t have and I should that’s useful information. If they’re searching for things repetitively and maybe I’ll put it right on the homepage or create a link, so they can find it very easily.

So, that’s one more way I’m working to help you when you come to navigate my website, so that’s all for today. Be well.
