Hi, this is a quick video to show you how to add the real no follow link to your BLOG roll links. Now, why do we want to do that? Specifically, you might, because Google are now penalizing sites that they think are selling links or paid links as they call them. They can penalize you whether you are or not, it is just whether they suspects you are. Now, the problem is Word Press as a default does not put the No Follow Link onto your BLOG roll links.
So, as a very good example, my BLOG tactics.com has just been penalized. It used to have a page junk three might scroll down here and we can see page junk three had up until recently, but if you look up here it is named pay junk zero. This happened last week and it is basically because Google believe that I am selling links on this site. I never will on this site, but Google and their infinite wisdom had decided to penalize it.
Now, in order to get that pay junk back, I need to go through a re-inclusion request at Google webmaster tools. I will show you where you can do that in a moment. But in order to get through that request, what I need to do is change my BLOG rolling so that they have the no follow comment on them to stop PRB and pass through those links. I mean, the Firefox at the moment, you can see that this links are all showing as red.
That is to show that they have that no follow tag applied to them. If I go back to Internet Explorer instead of Firefox, we will have to look at what I mean. Now, typically with Word Press, you do not have the option of using the no follow tag when you setup BLOG roll links, okay. This, I have made a change to Word Press site to how it works so that I can add it. Let me show you an example of another site where this is happened. This is my personal site, again, they believe that I am selling links on here. Ironically, I do not, but I got link to a couple of my BLOG on here.
So if I wanted to edit one of this by clicking on edit, it will bring up the edit screen, this is the same as adding a new link on your BLOG roll and there are some options for adding the co-relationship tags to your BLOG roll links. If I scroll down or if I click on the plus here, it will open up an extra box, where there are all sorts of extra relationship tags that I can use, but unfortunately, it does not include the no follow tag. If I get back to BLOG tactics, and click on edit to one of this, you will see that there is an extra option and extra check box that I can use to mark my BLOG links as no follow.
Again, if I click on the plus here, it looks expanded and I now have this option for no follow, which I can take and it makes this link a no follow tag, okay. Now, what I am going to do is show you how to do that to your own BLOG just in case Google come around in this site that you have been selling text links or something like that. You can then change your BLOG roll and ask for a re-inclusion, okay.
There codes that I am going to use, I have put into a text file so that you can download it and use this to search and replace and put in the bits of codes that you need. Though it looks confusing and complicated, it is very easy to do. I am doing a video to show you exactly how to do it. Notice hack as it was, is currently to see of a guy called Zein who runs a BLOG called knowledge constructs. He is quite a sharp guy and has some good ideas and he designed this hack specifically for this purpose. So feel free to pop and visit his BLOGS and good stuffs in there.
Now, what we need to do first of all is download the particular file that we are going to edit from our site. Now, the file that we want is in the WP admin folder and it is called, editlinkform.php. So the easiest way of doing this is FTPing to your site, browsing to the WP admin folder and then looking through the list for your edit link form PHP file and then copying that to somewhere on your local hard disk so that you can edit it and so that you can back it up before you make any changes. So I just copied that down, if I know you guys follow that folder, we have that file, editlinkform.php, what I am going to do is quickly copy and paste this.
So I got a copy of a back up in case I make any mistakes, I can always go back to the original version. Now, we could edit this with dream weaver or some other html as editor but we can actually do it with a simple text editor.
