Christine Buck: Pauwels in last week, we talked about posture and this week we’re going to talk about something that you say is one of the most important things.
Dieter Pauwels: Presence! To be present, I think to be present means that you fully accept where you want in your life. That you face the reality as it is. It’s very powerful.
Christine Buck: And by that you mean you’re in the moment?
Dieter Pauwels: You’re in the moment!
Christine Buck: You're not thinking about the past. You're not worrying about the future.
Dieter Pauwels: We are rarely in the moment. It’s a fleeting experience. I think once you accept what is, you take on a ship of your of your step in life and that’s, that’s very powerful so no more blaming other people. No more blaming the economy, just moving forward from this place right now, right here and that’s sometimes are very difficult to do because we live in a very interrupt driven society, very fast. We are being bombarded with the information 24/7. We have created this, this ADD generation. It’s very difficult to focus. People take pride in calling themselves a multi-tasker.
Christine Buck: Well, how do get there? How do you decide that you're going to be in the moment?
Dieter Pauwels: How do you get in the present moment? I think we have a very busy schedule. All of us are have a very busy schedule. It’s about not slowing down. It’s about calming down. It’s to become really aware of the thoughts that you're entertaining in the present moment because the thoughts you're having right now are leading you to the thoughts you're having next. If you think about music to create a wonderful masterpiece of music it is the silence between the notes that makes the music.
Christine Buck: Oh good point! If we look at this video we see people at work and you need to apply this everywhere, right? So if you’re present at work then in the moment and probably operating in that full capacity.
Dieter Pauwels: Absolutely! When you’re at work you want to be fully engaged in what you’re doing. We've asked people to do many more things with the same time. People try to multi-task doing different things but they’re no longer fully engaged in what they're doing.
When you're fully engaged doing one task and one at a time you will not only enjoyed you will become much more effective in doing the task at hands.
Christine Buck: Well, what can you tell people right now if they decide “Okay, I'm going to become really conscious in my life about everything I'm doing, everything I'm eating, everywhere I'm going, I'm always going to be in the moment? How will they life change? How it will be enhanced?
Dieter Pauwels: Oh dramatically! Dramatically once we stop and think for a moment and asked ourselves are we moving in the direction that we want to go in our lives or are we just repeating the same stuff over and over again in relationships, at work, in careers, calm down.
Christine Buck: That’s a good point!
Dieter Pauwels: Calm down! Calm down! As I say I am noticing the space between your own thoughts and being still. People don’t like stillness. I know people who go to bed with the TV on.
Christine Buck: That’s another—
Dieter Pauwels: That a whole different story. Different segment!
Christine Buck: What we are doing in a puzzle though of a lot things. This one is about being present and next week we’ll be talking about other ones too but it’s about putting together sort of cerebrum puzzle.
Dieter Pauwels: It is, yeah! It is to create this field of attraction so we can really get the start of the view once in our lives because first of all I think we all deserve it and we have to believe it is possible.
Christine Buck: Okay! So here’s our first puzzle, presence!
Dieter Pauwels: Presence! Yeah that’s a beautiful image there.
Christine Buck: Right!
Dieter Pauwels: So I might have this for sure not in my hand.
Christine Buck: But we are going to and in the end we’ll have that whole puzzle completed.
Dieter Pauwels: Yeah!
Christine Buck: We will have 12 sorts of psychological tips about how to be able a better in whole, right?
Dieter Pauwels: It is more of mental, a mental topic next week we’ll talk about expertise and knowledge because they tell you that what you don’t know won't hurt you. That’s not the case.
Christine Buck: Expertise and knowledge!
Dieter Pauwels: Uh-hum!
Christine Buck: Okay! Well I'm going to stay in the moment.
Dieter Pauwels: Stay present!
Christine Buck: And throughout your commercial and I’ll see you next Friday! Thank you, Dieter Pauwels, our life coach. You can go to KPLR11.com and our homepage find Dieter section and that’s where you can leave him messages about all sorts of different topics.
