George Watts: What is important and not to forget the boys on the wedding occasion. So I’m here to meet Anita to find out how exactly to be the best man? Anita, thank you so much for allowing us to come and meet you today.
Anita Parry: Oh, it’s my pleasure.
George Watts: Now I have to ask first of all. Where do we start when it comes to being the best man? If was going to do it, what will I do?
Anita Parry: Well it’s important to prepare early. Do you research? You need to think about what time the wedding is going to be. Is it going to be early in the morning or in the late afternoon because that will kind of dictate the content of the speech. For example if the wedding guest moving at the back, you know you can be a bit lose in your delivery and then perfect with a few more jokes very early in the morning. You might want to be a little more formal.
George Watts: So when it comes to the best man’s speech. How far can you go?
Anita Parry: Blue jokes please, blue joke should be avoided. Just do not say any blue jokes which you’ll never know who you are going to offend. Unless wedding of course is to greet a small group of friends. You know a small group of friends that you know very, very well. You just need to be aware that they’re all going to be capable of different ages. Young children, who tell the people, so just avoid blue jokes.
George Watts: An easy to get idea to maybe practicing for a friends and family first?
Anita Parry: Is essential. First of all you should well–typed your speech in full, to completely write it out and full of you’ve done your thinking and unstructured it with the kind of clear beginning and then going to an end. Then practice on your own. Then do it in front of friends. People you trust and it just helps to hear it said out loud.
George Watts: And what about picking a best man you know, do you really- is it best just to give your best friend or think about someone that’s going to give had for planning in organization and you know such of the things.
Anita Parry: No I think you just got to go with him. You’ve got instinct. Your best man is personal to you. So whatever his style is or her style you know the least you’ve chosen is would like them. So everybody will be individual you know.
George Watts: So Anita your three top tips becoming it right on a big day?
Anita Parry: Right. Do some mental rehearsal which is to mentally go through your speech and actually visualize yourself at the wedding. It takes away your nervous. That’s really a top tip. Second top tip is to write up your speech in full and then place it all into columns so you’re not fumbling around with rims of paper you can just deliver it very simply using your bullet points. And for the final tip, enjoy, but don’t drink before hand. Do not even be tempted, tough a little bit.
George Watts: Do not get paralytic.
Anita Parry: Absolutely. Wait until off to it’s a man you can.
George Watts: So we’ve got a bit of idea here how to be a best man? This absolutely follows all the tips like everybody needs this to know.
Anita Parry: Yeah.
George Watts: And now most importantly all our examples of how not to do it on the DVD.
Anita Parry: Well, behind all your papers and lots of ahs and ums. You know the group, the audience so that listen to you, so you don’t have to signal that you have finished with that because people lose interest and also to remember they want you to do well actually that’s a really important tip and I know its not one or three but everybody that want should to do very well and they won’t laugh. So allow them to laugh, don’t rush, take your time and be calm.
George Watts: And stay calm.
Anita Parry: Stay calm, breath deeply.
George Watts: That’s what I want to do. I’m going to keep part of this just in case I need it for your wedding day.
Anita Parry: It’s also good for the groom as well.
George Watts: Okay, hold a bit.
Anita Parry: Oh, yeah.
George Watts: Thank you so much for joining us.
Anita Parry: Cheers!
