Hi, so the key comes in everything you need. You got your replacement battery, this little nylon tool they gave you it is called an “iTool”, and then there is this little screw driver looking thin which you are actually you are going to use to crack to open your iPod.
So, here is my iPod and I will tried this a couple of times and I think, the best way to do it to get it open, if the separate this white outer shell from this metal back shell.
So, you kind of have to get a little bit of ledge expose and grab it with your thumbs and pulling back on the white part, the white plastic part, and then, once you get a little bit of a ledge, you just kind of drive this thing in there and pop it open, just like an egg.
So, once you have a bit of a crack, take the final tool, you very gently work it all the way around the iPod and you will expose. Oh! See look at that, it starts to get chewed up. It is alright as long as it works.
You expose all these tabs that keep it together underneath and look at that. you just pops open. Opp! I open it upside down or you get the picture. Move all my driver out of the way.
So, this is your hard drive and taking great care not to mess with this cable, right here. Which is the cable that attaches to the place where you plug in your headphones.
You just lift up your hard drive, excuse my hands. Oh! My batteries appears to be stuck to it. look at that. Anyway, this is where the hard drive pops out. There is a little attachment right there, plug in, and here is the battery.
So, this is my old battery. I am going to pull it out, see how it connects right here with this little pen. Pop that out, recycle it properly of course. Taking new battery. Oh, dear which side does it go in? Ah! Okay, looks like it goes in this way. That right? Yeah, it goes in this way.
You figure it out. You are suppose to read the instructions before you do this which I did not do. Over that, there is actually little plastic knob on the battery connector that seats in to the battery itself.
So then, you very carefully place the battery back into the iPod. It should fit perfectly, mine appears to be a bit of a tight squeeze but it makes it, not bad. Reconnect the hard drive, she hear it, the instructions say you should hear a click. I do not hear much of a click but its definitely in there.
Make sure it is snug and then everything looks groovy and then, very carefully will roll back together. Press these two pieces back together. Make sure there is no wire sticking out.
Oh, yeah and I almost forgot about this, the documentary. You have to make sure that the dock connector. You have to make sure that the dock connector is line up properly.
Mines already cracked, it cracked a long time ago. It is never really giving me any problems so, I have never replace it but if that happens, no biggie. Just note to be more than careful next time.
You will notice that it did not want to close right away because of that crack and the dock connector. Anyway, that is it! There is no charge in it, I do not think it is going to turn on. I have to go, Oh, look at that! It worked! Success! First try and that is how you replace your iPod’s battery.
