How to do Chipping in Golf

Now it is Chipping. I tell you I have got no feel. And that was not too good, let me try that again.

Does that look all too familiar? You will hear me say throughout this series, is it really a lack of talent that holds people back or is it the lack of knowledge? Well, most people, once they understand the basic technique have a really good change of performing those shots.

Now in these particular two shots there, is that really my feel that got me? It is actually the contact, I made the same size swing and got a totally different result in terms of the distance, and that is what contact is all about. If my contact is good, then a bigger swing will make the ball go farther, a smaller swing will make the ball go shorter. So I have got to have that good contact to be able to play these shots correctly, in fact, all shots around the greens.

Now what I want to do is talk for a few minutes about how to get good contact and how to learn the basic Chip Shot. Now this shot we are going to learn is the one you are going to be using probably 80% of the time around the greens. You may be using some different clubs for the different situations, but we want to have that good contact and the good technique to rely upon.
