Drill #2
Decision-making Drills
In the last set of drill variations we used regular brightly colored cones, but another option is to use numbered cones or just to create your own numbers and lay them down on the court. The purpose of the number is to help players become accustomed to making quick decisions in the heat of the battle. Take a look.
In this first decision-making variations we placed two cones one in each of the back-court quadrants. The cones are numbered and she calls out, number one or number two, before the ball bounces on her side of the court, to decisively commit to which side she will aim.
In this second variation she reacts to the number that I have called out, forcing her to stay extra alert and to start developing disguise for her shots.
Now we have placed four cones. One in each of the four quadrants. Kalindy again calls out any of the four numbers, but this time there are four variables, including hitting drop-shots to the short areas and top-spin drives to the deep ones.
A successful drop-shot must bounce two times in the service box selected. We give her two points for each successful shot and take away one point for each miss. Her goal is to see how quickly she can reach 11 points.
See in the last few variations probably gave you tons of ideas. The number of variations is endless. Just remember that the concept is to create more fun and focus, while the advancing player is working on their repetition and serial practice sessions.
