How to do a High Knee Running Drill

Here we see our player moving through the ladder using an exaggerated knee lift. A safety note is that the players may first want to practice this and other ladder skills along side the ladder prior to running through the ladder itself. Then once comfortable with the footwork involved, have them go through the ladder. High knee running is another important aspect of powerful and speedy movement.

We will remember Steffi Graf for years to come as an example of a player who utilized high knee running to achieve excellent sprint speed. A guideline for proper form is that the upper leg should be parallel to the ground when the players lift their knees up and the arms should cycle pass the pocket and no higher than the armpits. Coaches should also note in these exercises that players can practice them both with and without racquets.
