Okay, let us talk about the first drill our receivers do to catch the ball with their hands. There are a few concepts and fundamentals that we have to teach in order for them to be good hand catchers.
We do not want any of our receivers to catch the ball with their body. We want them to use their hands. A few things we teach, we want them to catch the front half of the football towards the very front tip of the football with their eyes focusing on the tip of the football. They are going to make a triangle with their thumbs and their two index fingers and they are going to try to catch the ball with an extended arm or with their elbows fully extended.
As the ball hits, it is going to give a little bit. We are going to have them freeze their eyes on the tip of the ball and then they will cover both the back point and the front point with their hand and their elbow. That is called the freeze drill. Let us see if Randal and do some of these freeze drills, really focus on extension with your arms, hand catching it, freeze your eyes on the tip and then secure the football. Good job right there. That is perfect. Let us get a couple more. Good you see, his eyes are looking at the tip of the ball. Coming nowhere close to his shirt. Good extension with his elbows. Securing the ball afterwards.
