Now let's move to an exercise that can improve anticipation as well as volley skills. Have four players turn away from the net with one feeder on the other side of the net, across from them. Assign each volleyer a number from 1-4, with each toss the feeder calls out a number. Upon hearing their number, each player turns and volleys the ball back over the net. This drill effectively helps the players develop reactions, anticipation, and balance. It will also help them with movement and positioning. Some tennis experts even go so far as to say that players should learn to volley with their feet, not just with their hands.
